What to pack in your motorhome? We were asked what are the 10 most important things to pack in your motorhome. It's hard to say what is most importantlyand it also depends a bit on: Sweden or abroad? Summer or winter? We've listed 10 things we think are inappropriate to forget, and there's a longer list below... Have we forgotten something important?
10 things to pack in your campervan
Here is a list of ten things we think you should not forget to pack in your motorhome. Many other things that are forgotten can easily be supplemented by going into a shop and shopping. Here we list the things that are impractical to forget, as they are more difficult to replace. Check that everything is included before you get into your motorhome and drive off!
- Money - Cash (possibly different currencies) and debit/credit cards
- Travel documents - Driving licences, passports, ferry tickets, booking numbers, registration certificates and insurance papers.
- Telephone number - Make sure you have telephone numbers readily available for roadside assistance, insurance companies, SOS International, the bank's escrow service and relatives.
- Camping cards and various membership and discount cards - For example, we have carried international camping cards and ACSI cards.
- lists or apps of campsites, pitches and rest areas - There are many different lists and inventories, and it is good to have both those that can be viewed online and offline.
- GPS or road atlas - The GPS can be updated and the road atlas is needed as a supplement (we think).
- Medicines - It is good to have a small travel pharmacyand, above all, it is good to bring any prescription medication with you.
- Laptop/iPad- Don't forget the necessary cables, any adapters and any mobile broadband.
- camera - Of course, some people only use a mobile phone camera, so you can skip this point. If you bring a camera - don't forget the extra battery or battery charger.
- Mobile phone - Last but not least, you need your mobile phone! Don't forget the cord to charge your mobile phone.
And some other bits and pieces that can be useful to have with you.
- Hygiene items - toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, etc.
- Travel pharmacy, with medicines including wound care, sunscreen and mosquito repellent
- Sheets, towels and blankets
- Clothes for the weather - rainwear, swimwear, warm clothes
- Food and wine including basic items such as spices, rice and coffee.
- Kitchen equipment - don't forget the corkscrew!
- Grill including charcoal and lighter fluid
- LPG - preferably an extra tube (or a refillable tube for LPG).
- Disposable items - paper towels, toilet paper, napkins, plastic cups.
- Candles and lighters
- Detergents, dishwashing liquids, laundry detergents and chemicals
- Sweeping brushes, sponges and vacuum cleaners
- Safety equipment - alarms and fire extinguishers
- Flashlight incl. extra batteries
- Tools and spare parts
- Outdoor furniture, level blocks and doormat
- Hose including various nozzles or jugs to fill up water
- Electricity cables including adapters for different sockets
- Extra toatank
- Guidebooks, phrasebooks and map books
- Paper and pencil
- Books, games, films and music

I would like to make a special plea for LPG adapters, one for filling a Swedish LPG bottle and one for connecting a foreign LPG bottle. Without these two little gadgets there can be some problems.

Many good things there yes!!! Also as Lars above says, adapters can be good to have we noticed in Poland.

Matts Torebring says:
Cash may require a moment of reflection this year for those of us travelling to Spain. Is there any money left in the banks? Will payment cards work this year? We'll probably do the opposite of what we usually do and stock up on some extra cash, even if it's impractical.
Incidentally, we made our own checklist 12 years ago for our first trip to southern Europe. It still works well with some updating.

Sure, there's a lot of stuff to take with you, and some that aren't necessary, but it's good. Have fun!

Matts, maybe it's smart to think that way after all... even before that it could be difficult with cards in some parts of southern Europe. A safety box could be good for storing money and the like....
Elisabeth, yes, it can easily be a lot when you pack...

Inga Magnusson says:
How clever it is to have a comedy wish list! It's very easy to forget important details, as we did last time: the charger for the iPad!

Inga Magnusson, yes, chargers are very easy to forget! We forgot the extra battery for the camera once, also easy to do...

A good packing list you have made! Most of that we have actually managed to remember all by ourselves 😉 But you have to live a little more frugally when you only have a car to pack in and not a whole motorhome! 🙂

If you have a dog, it must also be taken along.
1. food + bowls.
2. leash, bed, towel,
3. tick repellent, make sure all syringes are fixed. Rabies among others. Heartworm medication for entry into Sweden again.
4. wound care etc.
5. Insurance, passport.
6. can't think of anything else right now, but I'm sure there is more.

Elina Åhlstedt says:
Wifi is vital nowadays! To watch news etc. An hour of "TV" uses about 1GB. Mobile broadband router 4g and a SIM card that allows many GB abroad is a must. Right now it is Telenor mobile subscription that applies, allowing up to 100GB/month abroad. No other operator can match that. Then you can watch "TV" for a couple of hours every day.

An old thread, but I ended up here today as I'm planning for a new motorhome in two weeks, your advice is gold (a bit obvious in this case). But you really get it! When it comes to kitchen equipment, you prioritise the corkscrew. It's Friday afternoon: cheers, dammit.
