Here in the marina where we live there are many different houseboats. There are aquavillas and villa voyager, which we've talked about before, but also a bunch of more "classic" houseboats. So what do I mean by that? Well, I mean all sorts of boats and barges that have been converted into permanent accommodation on water.
Houseboats with different histories
We have previously shown Aquavillas and Villa Voyager here in the marina, but there are also more classic houseboats with different backgrounds. The boats may have a history as warships or fishing vessels, or they may have been used for bridge building. Then someone has rebuilt them and rebuilt them and rebuilt them again. And finally they ended up here.
Some look like boats, while others look more like small floating holiday homes. Many are no longer drivable, while others have their engines intact and are great for cruising. Nowadays you need planning permission to rebuild them externally, but that was hardly the case in the past. I find it charming that they are all different and have their own history.
Cat's Considerations says:
There is nothing wrong with ingenuity. I remember from my student days in the Netherlands that I was amused by walking along the canals just to look at all the houseboats.

Very charming! Like the mix which is much more imaginative than some residential areas.

Katta, in Amsterdam there is a real mix of many charming houseboats!
Marina, unfortunately... We know it's from the 1930s (heard 1932), but that's all we know...

A blissful mixture and it's cosy. Can you venture out to some island if you want to?

Criss-cross, no, the engine is recessed. In addition, the boat is so big that it requires a skipper's licence... and we don't have one...
