When you're on holiday, you stay in a hotel... right? We've stayed in a lot of different ways while travelling around the world, both in different types of hotels... and in completely different places. How do you prefer to stay on holiday? Have you stayed in any way, or any place, that stands out?
Table of contents
1. bungalow
Surely one of the most cosy things is to live in your own little house by the sea? These houses are located at Zanzibarnear Stonetown. We lived at the far end, with our own veranda.
2. train compartment
Travelling with Trans-Siberian railway between Moscow and Beijing takes seven days and the train becomes not only a mode of transport, but also an accommodation. We had our own compartment and the carriage had a toilet, a samovar with hot water and a hostess.
3. budget hotels
Sometimes simple living works. At this hotel in Boracay in the Philippines there was AC, but not much service otherwise. But it was close to the beach!
4. Jurta
I Mongolia you can try living like the Mongols on the steppe, in a yurt. It's surprisingly comfortable and just outside you'll find the vast expanse where horses and other animals roam freely.
5. riad
I Morocco you can stay in a riad, a traditional Moroccan house. We stayed in a riad in Marakech with four-poster beds, blue bathroom and three-minute walk to the square Djemaa el Fna.
6. eastern states hotels
You can find them in Russia (here in Irkutsk in Siberia), but also in China: huge concrete complexes with never-ending corridors. Moreover, it seems to be the same carpet everywhere...
7. Motorhome
Could it be better? As soon as you park, you have the accommodation there. Our motorhome has two double beds, a toilet, shower and a kitchen with a hob, oven, fridge and freezer. There is also outdoor furniture ...
8. apartment
Renting an apartment can be practical, so you can cook your own food. Here, in Puerto Galera In the Philippines, however, you couldn't do the dishes yourself, the maids did.
9. Tents
I Tanga In Tanzania, we lived in a tent borrowed from the hotel owner because the bungalows were sold out. It was important to always close the tent so that no uninvited guests could enter ...
10. luxury hotels
If you want to splurge, you can do it when you are in Asia, where it is cheaper. I Bangkok we stayed in a nice hotel where fruit, a morning newspaper and beautiful folded towels were provided.

Absolutely marvellous! For us, it is also the variety of accommodation that enriches and adds so much. Recognised me in most accommodations except the motorhome This we have not yet tried, but we have a sailboat, although not as comfortable as your motorhome. As for trains, we have not yet travelled on the Trans-Siberian, remains on the list. But we have travelled by train 48 hours between Beijing and Lhasa in Tibet, so we have some experience of trains.

Fy bubble to live on a train for so many nights! I get completely destroyed just going between norrköping and sthlm type... it shakes my whole brain several days afterwards haha. The Trans-Siberian Railway is probably an adventure I will skip 😀.
We have also lived in a motorhome, different types of hotels, tents (all summer last year hihi), campervan in Australia, me and a friend lived for about 7 months, on a mattress under the starry sky in a national park in Australia.... and truck haha (okay it was not on holiday, but accompanied on a truck driver's job, but it was overnight accommodation anyway).

Ditte, on the other hand, we haven't lived in a sailboat on our holidays... The train to Tibet sounds very exciting!
Alexandra, we found it quite cosy on the train... and we made two stops along the way. And you certainly have experience with both motorhomes and tents!
Steve, we like travelling in slightly different ways... it gives different experiences!

We recognise some of it. We have done the Trans-Siberian with extra stops in Moscow and Mongolia. We flew around a week in China too.
I vote for no.7 and if I have to choose a car park, we now feel for CFS which we are leaving today!

Talk about varied living, to say the least! Trains and tents are not something I would long for, but it was also possible.
We prefer to stay in an apartment/bungalow. Å 130 Rock in Tel Aviv was by far the best.

What a fun post! It's always fun to try different ways of living. Mini and I have gone through most of the hotel way and also lived in a Tipi and on the deck! Everything has its charm I would say!

You have certainly experienced a lot of travelling in the world! Our hotel stays are not so dramatic, a favourite is just Eksjö stadshotell. It stands out by being nicely located at a cobblestone square in the centre of Eksjö and right where the tree city starts with all the nice shops.
And the Grand in Stockholm is always an extraordinary experience. Expensive but affordable!

Lennart, great that you also travelled the Trans-Siberian! And I also vote for number 7!
🙂
BP, tents are usually not our thing either, but in Tanzania it was still a great experience!
Annika, the tipi sounds like a cosy accommodation!
🙂
No M, a nice hotel is never wrong!

Wow, there were so many different types of accommodation. We have tried tents, but that was when we were younger, definitely not now. Hotels can be ok, but they have such bad pillows I think 🙂 Nowadays it is the motorhome that applies and which we prefer.
