Last night we organised an evening of Lebanese food and wine tasting in the houseboat with Peter's son Robin and his wife Alexandra. It has almost become a tradition to organise such evenings sometimes.
Table of contents
Previous theme dinners
We have previously had an evening with French theme, an evening with Spanish theme and an evening with South American theme. The fun of these evenings is that you learn a little more about the wine and food of a particular area, while eating and drinking well and having a good time.
Lebanese wines
We tasted five Lebanese wines. We tried five Lebanese wines: Chateau Kefraya 2009, Chateau Musar 1993, Chateau Musar 2005, Comte de M 2009 and Chateau Kefraya 2011. Only one of them (Chateau Musar 2005) is available in Systembolaget's regular range. The others had to be ordered a few days in advance. All the wines were good and we perceived them as fruity spicy. One of the favourites was Chateau Kefraya from 2009 (206 SEK).
Meze
We picked up the food from the Libaneza restaurant in Sundbyberg. Their meze is soooo good! Hummus (chickpea mix), Baba ganoush (aubergine mix), Mehammara (chilli mix with walnuts), Labne (yoghurt dip with mint and garlic), Tarator djej (chicken mix with pickles), Shanklish (marinated feta cheese with tomato and garlic), fried cauliflower, meat pies, spinach pies, falafel (chickpea balls), fried halloumi, chicken wings and grilled chicken and lamb. Amazingly delicious!
Own dessert
We made the desserts (three of them!) ourselves. It was a nut mousse with raspberries, chocolate fudge sauce and candied nuts. The recipe comes from Halv åtta hos mig.
Lena & Jan says:
Looks really delicious, worth trying on the next Sundbyberg visit to my sister!

Horns says:
It sounds both fun and delicious! We have tried Lebanese once, it was good but I have a bit of a problem with the mint that was in the recipe so I will skip it next time.

Ditte says:
Sounds like a nice evening, indeed. Thanks for the tips on Lebanese wines, not so common. But definitely worth trying, I think. The tip on the Lebanese restaurant was also good. I didn't know about it before. And since the mezze dishes are largely cold, they can be picked up in good time.Good!
The dessert should also be tried!

Mr Steve says:
Looks delicious. It's nice to have themed meals.
Lebanese vegetarian meze is a favourite. However, I have never tried wine from Lebanon. May be an addition to the "what to try" list.

Alexandra says:
But oh so good it looks! Almost so I jump in the car and go to the swamp now at once to buy meze!!! 😀

Lena & Jan, absolutely! We think Libaneza is the best restaurant in Sumpan. Very good and affordable!
Guys, we have also tried to cook some meze on occasion, but we didn't succeed as well as Libaneza...
😉
Ditte, the dessert was good, but a little too sweet and rich for me. I would have liked to replace the chocolate fugue sauce with some kind of fruit...
Eva in Athens, Greek food is very good! But how are the Greek wines?
BP, meze is a favourite for us too. And the Lebanese wines were great!
Steve, there are many good vegetarian meze!
Alexandra, hehe, yes it is really super tasty!
🙂

Katta's Considerations says:
Fun with food and wine. I have no great knowledge of Lebanese wine, but it would be fun to try it. I am a member of Munskänkarna and it gives me the opportunity to botanise among new wines that are not available on the Swedish market.

ABB wife says:
Yummy! I know nothing about Lebanese wine but the food is wonderful! Here in BJ there is a restaurant called Thousand and One Nights and they have heavenly good Lebanese, Turkish and Arabic food. I love hummus and baba ganoush!

Very inspiring with theme evenings. We have it sometimes too but far too rarely unfortunately.

Katta, I'm glad you're part of the Mouthwashers! You've heard about them.
ABB wife, we also love hummus and baba ganoush. Usually buy them in cans sometimes...
Fantasydining, it's a bit more fun with a theme, and it makes you a bit more creative!

Love Lebanese food!!!
I'm a bit of a nerd about wine, I very rarely drink it - and when I do drink it's only organic...

Anna Granström, I also rarely drink (red) wine... but that's mostly because it gives me a headache....
