A few days ago, Swedish Radio reported on fire safety on campsites and found that motorhomes and caravans are often too close together. Now they have looked at the LPG equipment - and there are also shortcomings ...
Checks are no longer mandatory
Since 2009, it is no longer mandatory to check the functioning of LPG equipment in motor homes and caravans. Instead, it is up to each individual to order, carry out and pay for a test. gas control. This has resulted in up to one in two facilities not being inspected, which can pose a major safety risk, according to the report. reportage.
The decision has been criticised by the trade association Svensk Camping, and Håkan Gusteus calls the whole thing insane:
It was clearly pure madness to remove controls because there are many old wagons with very old LPG systems. Above all, we had a requirement that all wagons should be inspected for LPG, which we do not have today because there are no requirements from the authority.
Increased interest in camping, more crowded campsites and less control of LPG equipment... what could this mean for the future? If you want to know more, take a look at this one the film on LPG safety and read these tips for safe LPG use.
Lena says:
Our LPG filler (Åhus in Skåne) requires his customers to change any dried out gaskets on the gas cylinders before filling. If the cylinders are not tested in time (visible on the cylinder number) they will not be filled! We are grateful that he has that routine because there are too many who do not care, not OK whether you are close to each other or not :-/

A curious and worrying development. Why let go of control in this particular area?

I am terrified of gas and LPG. My God, the tubes can explode. Such a check is probably the first thing I would order and gladly pay for. It is a life insurance!

Lena, that sounds like a good routine! I agree, it is obviously not ok whether you are close or not. If something really happens with the gas, it's not good...
Steve, yes it is strange, I think it has something to do with EU rules...
BP, of course you have to respect gas. The risk is probably greatest in old cars, but it should be checked in all!
