This morning we hung out at the garage in Caen while they fixed the most pressing issue - the coolant hose. When we left a couple of hours later, the engine light was still on, but they promised that it wasn't an urgent problem and that we could check it out later. (They didn't have time.) But what happened in the afternoon? The engine jumped and the car started running really bad. Panic!
Car repair shop in Saint Lo
After our first visit to a car repair centre in France we needed to return. We again turned into the car repair shop outside Saint Lo near Caen. We were prepared for big problems, but were pleasantly surprised! The guys (who even knew some English) immediately found that a cable to the exhaust system was broken.
RV park in Mont St Michel
Quick as a flash, everything was fixed and we were able to roll on with no lights on the panel. Fantastic! Now we are standing on a car park that is probably the nicest we have ever been to - the car park in Mont St Michel. Here you pay with a credit card in a small machine, and then the gate opens up to nice places with electricity, delimited by high vegetation.

When you've had trouble and problems and solved them, the journey feels even more positive, "We did it too". This is how we felt after celebrating Midsummer Eve on the autobahn one year. Hugs & nice trip

Car problems are no fun 🙁
How nice it feels when everything works again.
Our engine light was also on for a short time today, but it will have to wait a while longer to seek help. We are fine at the campsite until after Christmas.
St Michel is fantastic, but also very touristy with lots of shopping.
Fingers crossed for your continued journey.

Thank goodness it worked out in the end. Imagine if you had spent as much time on the overhaul of poor Freedom - the motorhome - as you did on the houseboat...
I have been to Mont St.Michel and had the best dinner in the world there:-)

Mr Lars Permelin says:
It's nice to drive a motorhome when the engine runs well, feels good, no lights are on and everything works as it should. Then it's time to relax.

Thank goodness it worked out. I've had cars break down on long journeys and it's no fun at all...

But how annoying with car problems, but nice that this has been solved! And that it was not such a big error. There are more fun things to spend the money on as well!

Matts, that's right! Midsummer on the Autobahn does not sound optimal, but it's nice when you discover that you can do that too!
🙂
Frankie & Co, yes it really feels good! We have some small things to fix in the living room, but the car itself goes as it should now, and it's just sooo nice!
Maggan and Ingemar, the engine light can be very different things it seems. You can certainly wait until after Christmas, and try to find a solution then! It is true that Mont St Michel is very touristy, but relatively few people now in December!
BP, we used to spend a lot of time on the motorhome, but this year we have not had time... And it is starting to get a few years on the neck, so it is perhaps not so strange that something happens... (And since we live on a budget, it was powdered soup in the motorhome for lunch and no food at St Michel ;)).
Lars, it was a great feeling when the lights went out!
🙂
Ditte, it was an experience to see Mont St Michel today!
Znogge, stressful when the car does not work ... but nice now that we have managed to fix the problems!
Steve, of course they are! Very difficult when you are abroad and do not speak the language either, but in the end it usually works out!
Nils-Åke, thank you very much for the tips on campsites!
Alexandra, not at all fun to spend your money on. But we were still happy that it wasn't a bigger mistake than it was...
