Today we visited the southernmost point of Europe, located in Tarifa, Spain. From here it is not far to Morocco, and when you look out over the sea you see North Africa rising like misty mountains on the other side. Fascinating that Africa is suddenly so close!
Tarifa in Spain
Tarifa is the southernmost tip of Spain, and as such it is also exposed to the elements. As one of the windiest places in Europe, it is a paradise for surfers of all kinds. It has 10 kilometres of white sandy beach and completely unspoilt nature. However, because it is so windy, the place does not attract sun and beach tourists to the same extent as surfers ...
When we were here, the water was relatively calm, but we saw several people practising paddleboarding. Not far from the beach is also the town, where you can walk on cobblestone streets between beautiful whitewashed houses.
Close to Morocco
Travelling by boat to Morocco from Tarifa should take no more than 35 minutes and it is perfectly possible to cross by campervan. However, we have decided not to do that. We have visited Morocco twice before, and have no desire to go there now. We continue our journey along the coast to the east in Spain! If you are curious about Morocco, you can check out our travels. Morocco tips.
More 'extremes' in Europe
By the way, during this journey we have not only reached the southernmost point of Europe, but also Europe's westernmost point and Europe's most south-westerly point.
Fascinating to stand at the far end and look at the horizon! It's kind of fun to stand in places that make sense. Sure, it's not worth anything but we passed these places while travelling, and we didn't plan in advance that we would see them. We just go and experience.

Marie, we mostly walked around the beach and the pier and just quickly peeked in through the gate to the Old Town. Nice white houses, but nothing that we experienced as extremely special. We were mostly attracted by the sea and the view towards Morocco!
Anki, this is fantastic and the best thing we have done!!!

Znogge, sorry he refuses! Morocco is fascinating and there is a lot to see. The coolest thing was to get out into the Sahara (not with a motorhome then.... we have not been there with the motorhome at all). But Morocco can also be a bit tiring with all the salesmen and I think we would need different insurance than we have now...
