Last night we took the Italy - Greece ferry, from Brindisi in southern Italy to Igoumenitsa in northern Greece. The original plan was to follow the Italian east coast northwards and then enter Croatia from the north. But now we've changed our minds! That's the great thing about motorhomes - you can change plans and directions whenever you want. So now we have made it to Igoumenitsa in Greece.

Ferry lines between Italy and Greece
There are several different ferry lines between Italy and Greece, but the shortest one (which takes about 8 hours) runs between Brindisi and Igoumenitsa. Igoumenitsa is located in the north of Greece, near the border with Albania. Our plan is to travel slowly north, so we won't be able to see much of Greece, but we hope to see a lot. Next, we are very curious about Albania!
Ferry Italy - Greece
We had to pay about 3500 SEK for two adults and a motorhome, without a cabin. Although it was high season, we did not need to book in advance. We just went down to the ferry terminal earlier that day and bought our tickets. The ferry left at 20:00 in the evening and arrived at 04:30 in the morning.
Travelling without a cabin
This is the second time we've travelled on a night ferry without a cabin, so we're getting a bit more experienced. This time we didn't just bring a pillow and blanket - we were also quick to find one of the coveted "seats" on the carpeted floor. We also brought a packed lunch so we didn't have to eat the expensive and disgusting food on the boat...
Some have routine ...
Of course, there are still those travellers who are more experienced than us. Our "neighbours" brought sleeping bags or inflatable mattresses. And then we had the most experienced ones: the couple camping (!) on the deck.
Can you sleep like this anywhere on the ferry? No, apparently not. The staff made a disengaged attempt to say that you could not sleep there, but then everyone slept there anyway (and the staff passed a hundred times without saying anything more.) Now we have arrived in Greece and have made it to a camping in Igoumenitsa: Camping Drepanos.

I thought I recognised Igoumenitsa. I realised that I probably visited the town when I was in Corfu in the late 70s. However, I can't say I remember anything, except the name then.

Practice makes perfect and you've got it. I got some of that when we went island hopping in Greece with small children. But without a motorhome. But we slept on the deck under the stars and had food with us. (Pillows too...)
Hope you have found a good campsite and can rest and look around for a couple of days.
Looking forward to reports.
