We are still enjoying the sun and warmth in Croatia, but soon it will be time for us to slowly roll north. Many others drove down with their motorhomes during the autumn, to winter in southern Europe with a motorhome until spring.
Want to get some sunshine from more southerly latitudes or maybe some ideas for future winter holidays? We list 14 inspiring winter travel blogs to follow!

Want to read more about wintering with a motorhome in southern Europe?
We've spent a winter in a motorhome in southern Europe, including Portugal and Spain. You can read more about it here:
Matts Torebring says:
I doubt that we would be able to relax for so long and so much. If we were gone for a long time, we'd move like you have. We've always kept going all our lives.
We visited one of the most popular wintering spots in Spain. We immediately got a taste for it. It would be nice to do a similar research, for those of us who are adrift, stuck at home and rolling all winter. Would think that we are fewer. Have a good time

Role o Carina says:
Imagine how many people go south for the winter!
We expect to do the same in a few years 🙂 .
Take care and enjoy.....

Mr Steve says:
I will certainly be checking in with some of the southern European over-winterers.
A former colleague of mine used to start the motorhome trip to Spain with his wife and dog on 26 December and return home by 1 May. Many people did the same, I realised, and they became like "families" in the places they stayed for a long time. After a few years, it was always the same place in Spain. Like coming "home" again.
Goodbye!

We were so surprised and happy to be mentioned on your blog, thank you for that.

Mr Jan Svensson says:
So glad you wanted to include our blog!
You have inspired us since we found your blog just over a year ago. It has been great to follow your journey through Europe this year.

nils-åke hansson says:
Nice to be mentioned on a blog. We write for family and friends and for those who want to travel and will travel in the future.

BP says:
That's a great list! Will check some of the blogs. By the way, I completely agree with Matts - I / we would also move to different places and not just stand for several months at one and the same campsite. Then you might as well rent an apartment there ...
What surprises me is that as many as four (if I have counted correctly - I have discalciulia;-) ) of the couples end up in Benidorm and then at El Raco. I would never have thought that. Benidorm is not a "Swedish nest", it is Torrevieja and El Raco is in the middle of nowhere. Quite strange actually ...
PS. Now I became so curious that I just have to read the El Rao blogs;-) DS.

Ditte says:
What a nice picture!
Wow, there were a lot of motorhome owners blogging and wintering down south. And I can understand them.
Of course I'll look in on some, it's always fun to see what's going on. However, I am not so fond of large campsites where you stand quite close together, but I have been attracted by the smaller ones you have shown. But a combination is certainly practical.
If I owned a motorhome, I would do what you have done and travel around because it is
still a lot in Europe I want to see and experience, but it will be another way.

solan says:
Great idea with blog links from winter travellers. Even if some of them are stuck on camping, they make trips all over the place with good tips as a result. I've read some of them, now I'm going to gnaw my way through all of them. Slowly but surely...;)

Steve, yes, it seems that many people do this, and why not? Many may have a more pleasant and social life than they would have in Sweden during the winter months.
Matts, some of the overwinterers do move, but there are many who stand still in the same place too. It would not suit us to stand still for so long, but as long as you do what you enjoy! 🙂 Good idea by the way, maybe I should gather all the motorhome bloggers who are travelling in Sweden as well 🙂.
Rolle and Carina, yes, you wonder how many there really are! It is only a fraction that blogs, but we saw a huge number of blogs when we were down in Spain and Portugal.
JoY, it felt obvious to mention you! 🙂
BP, we visited Benidorm and noticed that there were many Swedes and Norwegians at El Raco. Otherwise, there are mostly Brits in Benidorm, but as I said, the campsite seems popular with Scandinavians! 🙂
Jan Svensson, how nice to hear that we have inspired you! Nice blog you have started too!
Nils-Åke Hansson, I think there are many people who dream of and plan for winter travelling and find it interesting to read the blogs of those who have actually made it happen!
Ditte, thank you, glad you like the picture! Some overwinterers move between places, while others stay in the same place all the time. We like more to travel around (but to stand still from time to time) but as long as you enjoy what you choose 😉.
Solan, yes, as you say, many of those who lie still make excursions, or take small trips on the way down or up.

Maggan and Ingemar says:
Thank you so much ..... what an advert you are doing for our blogs!
Many of these you have already met at .... but not us, although it has been close. 😀 We have followed your blog for many years and when you were on your Norrland trip several years ago, we saw the car in Grövelsjön. A few weeks later, when we went to a rest area and coffee.... you just left there...... but we have not come closer than that 😀.
You have had an amazing journey this year and many people envy you. Keep it up and enjoy the warmth, because when you come home it's cold 🙂.

Nice links, but we actually want to keep following you. 🙂 Do you have any new travel plans or do you just want to go home and land for a while?

admin says:
Maggan and Ingemar, yes we have met some, but far from all! But oh is it true, were we so close that time? I did not know that 😉 Sooner or later we will surely meet somewhere on the roads! 🙂
Marie, we already have some new travel plans (less iofs, but still exciting!) and we will of course continue to blog! 🙂

Anna in Dubai, haha, we actually WERE at nudist baths yesterday... and before 😉 Have blogged about it here: http://www.freedomtravel.se/2015/10/naturiststrander-i-kroatien/

Anders and Birgitta says:
Nice to see our blog in the list. Can understand that some people think it is strange to stand in the same place all winter, but if you, like us, have travelled around Europe every year, and sometimes several times a year, since 1982, we think it is nice to lie still in a place we enjoy. The alternative with a house or apartment down here is nothing for us then we would feel stuck, now we at least have the option to move if we feel like it. But as I said, we are all different and that is fortunate.
05 November 2015 - 10:43
Ama de casa says:
That's a lot of motorhome blogs - and a whole bunch "in the neighbourhood" of us as well 🙂 ).
We also have a house car. If you make a distinction. Both house and car. Well, apartment anyway. And right now we have no car either as it is hostage to the workshop for the tyre change.
Haha! But it was a good try anyway - you have to admit that 😉.
(Ok. Half-assed attempt... 😀 )

Anna in Dubai says:
Ah cool! Exciting life and different...
BUT .. considering that you were at a nudist bath yesterday (?) I had expected a post and pictures from this. I am expecting ...

Lennart says:
Many Swedes in southern Europe now!
Goodbye!
05 November 2015 - 11:42
Bosse and Gerd says:
Nice compilation you made! We look forward to a ditto on "winter skiers" in Sweden, something we find hard to see the appeal of in rain, snow and cold.
Otherwise, we agree with Anders and Birgitta - we have, like them, travelled by car all over Europe from 1971 and interspersed it with flights and rental cars until we got our first motorhome in 1997, so we don't feel the need to flap around in Spain and Portugal week after week, but instead rent a car and travel around and look around.
05 November 2015 - 11:52
admin says:
Anders and Birgitta, it is fortunate that you can do what you want! 🙂 And it may well be that many of those who stand still at the same campsite have travelled around before.
Ama de casa, haha not a very good attempt... But maybe a tent? Or no, that's right, you threw it away 😉.
Lennart, it would be interesting to know how many there actually are!
Bosse and Gerd, I have to make such a list too! 😉 Yes, understand what you mean! It can probably be true for many, that you have travelled around before. In addition, you always have the opportunity to make excursions!
05 November 2015 - 12:39
Gert & Annica says:
We are also located in Benidorm and enjoy being close to everything.
There are now more than ten cars from Sweden.

It's great to be on your list. This was also reflected in the statistics. I wondered why, but then got the explanation. Understand that it feels like having to go home after your fantastic trip with many interesting elements and also people. Now have a continued good trip!
