Beaches in Malta! Today we present five beautiful beaches in Malta. Did you think that Malta's coastline is all rocks and stones? That's right, most of Malta's coastline is rocky beaches where you can swim from ladders, but there are also a number of beautiful sandy beaches in Malta. Take a look at five beautiful beaches in Malta!
Table of contents
Malta
We are surprised that more people do not go to Malta, which we think has the most. We have written about Malta several times and been around with a guide in most places, restaurants, sights, things to do in Malta, beaches, diving, cycling, mountain climbing and much more.
It takes about two hours to get there and has a wonderful climate nine months a year. Winter time January - March is like our spring but a little colder inside because they don't insulate like us northerners. Malta is truly a gem in Europe.
Malta's beaches
What is a beach? We think a good beach should be without rocks and a little bigger than 50 metres wide, but that's what we are. We could have included Paradise Bay and written about six beaches, but now there are only 5 really good beaches in Malta. There are plenty of rocks and where you can swim like in Croatia, and they have almost always installed bathing ladders in the rocks for your safety. These 5 we thought were beautiful and that we liked.
1. gnejna beach
Gnejna beach is a popular beach located on the west coast of Malta, about one kilometre from the picturesque village of Mgarr. It is a popular sandy beach that is frequented by families with children and others.
2. Ghajn Tuffieha beach
Ghajn Tuffieha beach is located in the countryside, not far from Gbejna beach and right next to Golden bay, with only some high cliffs in between.
3. golden bay
Golden bay is a fine sandy beach in northwest Malta, in an area of mostly unspoilt countryside. Right next to the beach, Radisson has a large hotel.
4. mellieha bay
The sandy beach at Mellieha bay is perhaps the most popular beach in Malta. The water is clear and shallow, and it's also home to the Munchies restaurant, where you can eat or have a beer while enjoying a great view of the sea.
5. Ramla bay on Gozo
Ramla bay on Gozo is perhaps the finest beach of them all and is located next to the legendary Calypso Cave (no longer accessible for safety reasons). The water here is shallow and crystal clear.
More beaches
There are a few more beaches in Malta, but mainly there are plenty of rocky beaches. I Sliema and St Julians there are, for example, many bathing spots on the cliffs. There are also nice swimming spots such as The Blue Lagoon (Comino), Dwejra Bay (near Azure window) and Ancor bay (Popeye village). Here are some more beaches, in addition to those on the list:
- Paradise Bay is a beautiful beach at Marfa in northern Malta.
- Pretty bay is a beach at Il-Brolli in southern Malta.
- St George Bay is a metropolitan beach in Paceville.
- Honodoq ir-rummy is a tiny beach in Gozo.
- Mgarr ix-Xini beach is also a small beach in Gozo.

Gozo is my favourite in terms of beaches. Have visited a couple of others on Malta but they are quite small and not really suitable for walking a few kilometres.
I've enjoyed the fine snorkelling and diving waters in Malta, where you don't want sand but more rocks.
A good presentation of the beaches was nice and nice that they are available for those who want them.

Steve, the autumn weather is not cosy at all now ... so nice to dream away! 🙂
Linnea, it's only been a year or so since you went to confederate camp 😉.
Elisabeth, yes in this weather you want to dream away!
Liniztravel, there are many rocky beaches in Malta, but there are some sandy ones too!
Ama de casa, I don't mind rocky beaches either actually. I like sandy beaches too, but there are advantages to not having to drag the sand home 😉 There are plenty of rocky beaches in Malta ...
Renates Reiser, glad you've been to Gozo and like that island too!
Znogge, hmm... would love to give you a tip, but my head is empty right now, haha.

Hello there,
I really like Peter's film.
I would like to visit these beaches, you don't have to have a favourite. All beaches have their bright side!

Marianne - Glimpses of the world says:
Nice beaches - and many I have not visited 🙂 Blue Lagoon is very nice, but there are a little too many people there during the day, I think, and they unfortunately leave a little too much rubbish both on land and in the water. Fortunately, I stayed overnight on Comino, and could thus swim in Blue Lagoon completely undisturbed, and try to close my eyes to not see everything people had thrown away out there in nature 🙂.
25 October 2016 - 23:51
Marina says:
Yep, you got me out of the delusion that everything is just stone in Malta. But now I have nothing against stone beaches, but still ... The last beach looks absolutely fantastic!

Rico, glad you like the film! Wishing you a nice continued journey!
Marianne, how nice that you stayed on Comino and could see the Blue Lagoon when there were less people there! From what I understood, there was only one hotel on Comino!?
Marina, there are a lot of beaches in Malta so I can understand why they are known for that, but there are some sandy beaches too!
Sweet, yes in this weather it's easy to want to leave!
4000 miles, we don't mind pebble beaches either. But since a lot of people don't know that there are sandy beaches in Malta, it was kind of fun to show them 😉.
