There has been a lot of travelling for us this year, both with and without a motorhome. Now we will actually be home in Sweden for a while, and now we can instead look forward to the autumn motorhome trips here in our own country. The motorhome season is not over yet, and even if you have limited time off, you can still go on weekends. It will be really cozy to get out with the motorhome again!
Journeys of the year without motorhome
We have travelled a lot this year actually! Without a motorhome, we have managed a skiing trip to Austria (January), an adventure trip to Malta (April), an Easter trip to Tallinn (April), a party weekend in Amsterdam (May), a trip among alpine villages in Switzerland (August), a Mediterranean cruise (September) and, for Peter, a sun and bathing holiday in the Cassandra in Greece in September).
Motorhome trips of the year
Believe it or not, we've had a few motorhome trips too. Last spring, the motorhome was still in the workshop after last autumn's incidentbut in the summer it was finally time to roll away! This year's big motorhome trip went around Poland and the Czech Republic (June/July). In addition, this summer we had a trip together with eleven (!) other motorhomes to Schwedenfest in Wismar in Germany (August).
Where are the autumn motorhome trips going?
So where are the autumn motorhome trips going? We won't be able to do any long motorhome trips this autumn, but we do plan to go away occasionally at weekends. During October, I have different reasons to visit on different occasions. Norrköping and Västeråsso we take the opportunity to roll the campervan and spend the whole weekend out.
Do you have any tips on a nice campsite or something we should see or do in or near these cities? If you have a motorhome, where are you going this autumn?
Across the board says:
The only thing we have planned is Södertälje this weekend for a combined birthday-engagement party at our daughter's house 🙂 .

åsa in åsele says:
Wonderful to be able to go away, I get a little jealous 🙂 .
There has been very little caravanning for us in recent years,
this year it was a weekend + a week... blaming the weather 😉.
But I have to make do with reading about other people's excursions,
reading books and dreaming away...
hopefully next summer will be better.

This summer's weather was really not very fun ...! Wishing you a nice book autumn, and a better summer next year!!!

So many wonderful trips you have made! For me it has been Stockholm, London, Parga and Puerto De Sollér so I am also satisfied. Now we stay at home for a while considering the grandchild who will soon arrive so the autumn trip is cancelled this year.
28 September 2017 - 8:30
Helena says:
You have also had a lot of wonderful trips! And how cosy with the grandchild !!!

Wonderful that Freedom should be allowed to roll a little! We ourselves are in the starting pits to drive the motorhome down to Spain and be there for two weeks before we fly home and the biscuit can stay in the sun until we come down again in December sometime for this year semester☀️?We hope for a nice winter in the south....
28 September 2017 - 8:59
Helena says:
What a great plan!!! Then you get both a wonderful autumn trip now and then a holiday in the middle of winter! 🙂

Mr Steve says:
You're really maximising the use of your motorhome. Not to mention maximising your time.
Have a nice autumn!

This year I don't think we've used the campervan as much as we would like, but yes, we are making the most of our time! 😉

An intense and wonderful travel year - which still has a little left to give! Lovely 🙂

A really good travel year! And it can be really cosy with some small motorhome trips 🙂 .

Ama de casa says:
Wow, you are travelling! Nice 🙂
We do not have a motorhome, but it is not entirely impossible that we roll away anyway. Probably to some place within the country's borders that seems interesting. Hotel camping works as well 😀.
28 September 2017 - 10:37
Helena says:
You are usually quite good at travelling!!!! 😉 And hotel camping also seems to work:)

If you are going to Västerås, there is a parking space at the harbour, quite central. Then there is also Björnö (a little outside Västerås) if you want to go to nature.
Norrköping, Arkösund is close to the sea.
I'm thinking of heading north next week, towards the Dala Mountains before the snow comes for some mountain hiking and possibly cycling.

Helena says:
We tried to find the campsite in Västerås once and failed, but we will try again! Thanks also for more interesting tips! Wishing you a nice trip north!

My husband's mum and her husband live in Västerås, and I, who likes sightseeing and taking pictures, have asked if they can recommend things to see and do in Västerås. But you know, you get home blind 😉 In the end, they came to the conclusion that Rudbeckianska gymnasium is the oldest gymnasium in Sweden (haven't checked if it's true, but will do so), and the area around it is apparently very nice with alleys that at least I like. I have visited Anundshög, it is an ancient area with large burial mounds and a ship setting. Powerful if you think about what you actually see and experience. Kyrkbacken is probably very nice too. And Strömsholm, of course.
28 September 2017 - 13:36
Helena says:
But oh, how nice with tips from people on site! 🙂 Several tips that sound interesting, we will definitely check it out! And that with being home blind ... yes, it is recognised! 😉

A trip to Alingsås and see Lights in Alingsås might be appropriate. There are three different free pitches, one of which is by beautiful Mjörn. And then we can have a coffee and talk about motorhome life and digital nomad life 🙂 Welcome to Alingsås!
28 September 2017 - 14:16
Helena says:
Thanks for the tips! It sounds like it can be nice in Alingsås 🙂 .

I come from Västerås. In my opinion, the best sightseeing there is a walk along Lake Mälaren and a visit to the Skrapan to see the view from the city's tallest building, a walk in the old town by Svartån. There is not much to see. A little outside is Ängsö castle and nature reserve and it is nice if you like outdoors. For camping I recommend the Johannesberg/Tidö-Lindö direction.
28 September 2017 - 17:40
Helena says:
Perfect with tips from someone from Västerås! Thank you very much for good ideas! 🙂

There is not much planned for me in the future. I know that I will get to go on the regular trip to Ullared on the last trip of the year before I am cancelled. This weekend's trip goes towards the sun, so hope it shows up in Blekinge somewhere.
28 September 2017 - 19:17
Helena says:
We have never been to Ullared, but at least once I would like to go there! 🙂 Hope you get sun this weekend!!!

Welcome to the roads. We hope to be able to travel most weekends, until the Christmas rush begins. Tomorrow Friday we go to Vadstena. Partly for the campsite at the beach and partly to buy good food at Östenssons livs.

Helena says:
Great to have such a long season ahead! Wish you a nice trip to Vadstena!

Another newer alternative to the bar in the scrapyard is to go to the new Steam hotel, take the lift to the 18th floor and sit in the bar or dining room and enjoy the fantastic view of Lake Mälaren and watch the sun set on the horizon. When it comes to food, the recommendation is in the following order: Frank, K9, A-grill, Pinchos or Vardag. Tip. There are yellow bikes to rent cheaply via a mobile phone app (digiBike). Rent a bike and tour around västerås. A bike ride to Erikslund shopping or why not a visit to vallby open air museum or Anonundshög. For some culture always free entry to Karlsgatan 2 which is the art museum with exciting exhibitions. A walk in the old town and end with a visit to the cathedral where Erik 14th is buried in the church's sarcophagus at the altar.
28 September 2017 - 20:27
Thomas in the Water says:
Or why not visit the concert hall. There is always an event there on weekends. Everything from more or less famous artists and music to stand-up comedy.
28 September 2017 - 20:48
Helena says:
Wow, so many interesting tips! Thank you very much Thomas! We will definitely read these comments one more time before we leave. thanks again!

Norrköping and Västerås are close and good if you "only" have the weekend to be on a roll. Norrköping is incredibly nice I think and Elisabet with the blog http://husbilen-ellen.blogspot.se/ often shows pictures from there. Västerås, yes there I was childishly fond of the harbour actually, but I am;-)
28 September 2017 - 20:48
Helena says:
We have to look in at Ellen simply 🙂 When it comes to Västerås, it will find a parking space in the harbour, so we will probably end up there! 🙂
28 September 2017 - 21:08
Thomas in the Water says:
I would definitely recommend the place in the harbour. I think it was nominated as one of the best pitches last year by motorhome caravan. But the van did not that time ...

Helena says:
Thank you, sir! We will look for it!

Britt-Marie Lundgren says:
This year there has been less motorhome travelling than in several years. No long trip (much due to the summer weather in Norrland). There was a week on Gotland and then some small trips to Blekinge and the west coast. Without a motorhome we only went to the tulips in the Netherlands and Crete in August. Now we hope for sun next weekend for a long weekend on Öland ...
28 September 2017 - 21:53
Helena says:
Nice trips you made and it is not at all "just"! I have only seen the tulips in the Netherlands in pictures, but they look fantastic!
