We have previously told you about all the active activities The Freedom of the Seas cruise ship offers everything from exercise and mini-golf to rock climbing and a surfing simulator. But a Mediterranean cruise also includes fancy 3-course dinners, bar visits, performances - and why not a magical ice show?
Table of contents
Dinners on the Freedom of the Seas
There are a bunch of different restaurants on the ship, some included in the price and some not. We had a standing table at Leonardo's restaurant and ate all our dinners there. Every day there was a new menu where you could choose between starters, main courses and desserts. Everything tasted good, and some times it was extra special.
Captain's dinner and Caribbean evening
Every night there was a different dress code. The most special evening was the Captain's dinner, when the dress code was "formal" and everyone came in a dress. really great party favours.
Good thing we packed long dresses and jackets, so to speak! Another evening the dress code was "casual/caribbean" and that dinner ended with both staff and guests gathering on the stairs and singing...!
Theatre, 3D cinema and silent disco
There was so much happening on board every day that it was impossible to take it all in. The offerings included theatre, musicals and stand-up comedy. It was possible to watch 3D cinema with special glasses and one evening there was a 'silent disco' - when everyone danced with different music in headphones. Of course, there were various cafes, bars and a large casino everywhere.
Mediterranean cruise with ice show
The best part in our opinion was the ice show. The group of figure skaters was incredibly skilful, and the show was well done. Each act had its own theme with cool music and surprising effects - from dreamy and beautiful to humorous and entertaining. If you ever go on a Mediterranean cruise (or Caribbean cruise for that matter) with Freedom of the Seas - don't miss the ice show!
Film from our Mediterranean cruise

What a wonderfully nice blog you have here! We have thought about a cruise but it will have to wait a while longer, even though it looks absolutely wonderful! Kramiz

Ditte says:
Great to see the film that Peter made. So well done! Great!
But it almost felt like the cruise could have been longer to catch up with everything. But sometimes wonderful is short. And one also wants to go ashore and discover new places as well.
We have cruised a few times in the Mediterranean, along the coast of Norway and in the Atlantic and have enjoyed it, albeit with slightly smaller ships.
Thanks for the tour !

Helena says:
Glad to hear that you like the film Ditte! Yes, haha, a little difficult to find time for everything actually! At least if you want to go ashore, and you do. It sounds like nice cruises you made! The coast of Norway and the Atlantic Ocean also sounds interesting!

It will be O M G! again.
How wonderfully luxurious it sounds to have a standing table at Leonardo's.
Thanks for the cruise feeling I got from Peter's film. Great!

Helena says:
Haha, yes that comment probably fits quite often when it comes to this cruise ship 😉.

Kenneth Risberg says:
Powerful and cool. Do not think you need to be bored on such a cruise. Outstanding is still the ice rink and the show there.
Can imagine a Caribbean cruise at some point in the future.
10 September 2017 - 9:37
Helena says:
The ice rink and ice show was one of the things that impressed us the most! Cruising in the Caribbean we can also imagine trying 🙂 .

Matts Torebring says:
That there was so much luxury and choice on a cruise was more than I knew. A fine film as usual.

Helena says:
We had no idea either... until we got on board 😉 Glad to hear you like the film!

Anette says:
My goodness, you won't be idle or bored for a second, as I've always feared you would be on a cruise.
Ice rink, that sounds really weird, but fun?
10 September 2017 - 10:36
Helena says:
No, you don't have to be idle 😉 The ice rink was a bit weird, but one of the best features according to us - both the show and the fact that you could go by yourself!
10 September 2017 - 11:12
Annette says:
So fun to read your posts, see the pictures and films from the cruise 🙂 It was not this flashy when we crossed the Mediterranean quite a long time ago. For me, it's probably a little too flashy (can't really decide what I think really 😉 ) and too many people, but I think it would be something that would suit our family as a whole. The girls who are 11 and 13 would like all the activities, the climbing walls, the pools, the shows and to avoid long journeys by car, which they now always have to endure. I would like the gym, the running track, the pools and the food 🙂 And breakfast on the balcony. If it was possible to make exciting trips on your own, this could definitely be something. I will show our girls the film and hear their impressions. Thanks for all the inspiration!

Helena says:
Glad you like our reports Annette! I can understand how you think, and I also think that this particular ship might be the best fit for a family. Keep an eye out for our upcoming posts too. In about four days we will write about how everything works on the cruise, including prices, etc.

Britt-Marie Lundgren says:
Great film, but now I'm pretty convinced that this is not what I want if I spend my money on a trip. What luck that we are different otherwise there would have been even more mastodon ships in the harbours of the cities. I want to experience the authenticity of eating local food etc.
10 September 2017 - 11:09
Helena says:
I think cruising suits some people, and for others it may not suit at all. When you visit different stops along the way, you can take part in the genuine southern European experience, but on board the boat is another matter. There are also different ships, but with different specialisations. The most important thing is to find a way to travel that you enjoy! 🙂

Ruth in Virginia says:
Wow! A nice film that shows exactly why I wouldn't want to
pay to be on board. Those toy animals, for example, and...
the crowds on the grand staircase, the hustle and bustle of the dance floor.
Claustrophobia would set in.
Curious - where do all employees live? What nationality were most of them,
who worked in the dining rooms and cabins? I have read that Filipinos and Indonesians are often waiters on board. Were all fellow passengers Swedish?
Did you get to know and befriend any of them?
Lots of questions. You get curious about the old days 🙂
10 September 2017 - 13:01
Helena says:
Glad you like the film! And I guess cruising isn't for everyone... 😉 I'm not sure about the nationality of the employees, but I understood that they came from all over the world!
(heard something about 60 nationalities). There are some kind of cabins for everyone who works, but I don't know what they look like. There were not many Swedish passengers at all. The largest group was probably Spaniards. There were also quite a few Americans. Otherwise, we encountered a few people who spoke German, French, British English, Norwegian, Chinese ... We talked a bit with some other passengers, but we were away quite a lot ourselves so we didn't really get to know anyone. But you can be more social if you want to ... 😉.

Biggeros says:
A very worthwhile summary on film!!!
I think you got most of what goes on on the floating luxury boat =) Did you catch all the activities and arrangements?
I also had the ice show!!! What I want to remember when I last skated, it didn't go on rails?
First time I HEAR there is a silent disco???
10 September 2017 - 13:27
Helena says:
Haha, no I don't think it's possible to do everything! We prioritised the ice show and watched the musical for a while, but there were lots of other performances too that we missed completely ... You should probably not think that you should have time for everything 😉.

Good film and great fun to see everything. How do you have time for everything that is on the boat, Almost stressful so you do not miss anything that others are talking about at breakfast. But breakfast on the balcony seems cosy.
A mate of mine worked on a similar boat, a very long time ago. He told me about the American lady with purple hair who ordered eggs where the yolk would be hard and the white loose!
Goodbye
Hugs from us in rainy Finland

Helena says:
Haha, no you do not have time for everything! You have to try to choose ... 😉 And help, it can not be easy to get such guests ...! I think and hope that we were a little nicer 😉.

Now you know what I'm going to say, don't you;-) However, I'm not going to follow in Ruth's footsteps this time and instead write: Peter's very well made film shows why I wouldn't buy a party blower to be at the Captain's Dinner;-) However, I liked the towel animals - they were cute - and the "oasis" and balcony.
Oh no, I wouldn't pay probably a pretty hefty amount either to "have fun on demand" in an environment reminiscent of "all things fake in Las Vegas". Now you didn't have to pay, so maybe that's another matter.
As I said - many thanks for letting me tick with you and for making sure that my prejudices were confirmed;-)

Helena says:
I understand that cruising is not for everyone. By the way, we will also write a post in a few days (first it will be a bit about Rome) about how always works practically on a cruise, incl. costs etc.

Ama de casa says:
So heavenly wonderful! One of the reasons why we chose Princess among all the companies that exist was precisely that you do not have to be so "remarkable" there. Mostly "smart causal" (about "come as you like, but not in gym clothes or goose pants, please 😉 ) and the formal ones were not exactly the Nobel dinner either. Suitable for us who have... a limited wardrobe and non-existent interest in clothes, so to speak 🙂.
(Then the cruise route itself is the biggest reason, of course 🙂 ).
I think many people who diss cruises have not tried and have preconceived ideas. Had it myself, before we tested the first one last year. But of course, people think differently and it probably does not suit everyone anyway 🙂
Now we are back in reality again. Missing Joy (our cabin stewart). Today I had to make the bed all by myself (soft start: refused to put on the bedspread! :-D). The washing machine is spinning and the dishes are waiting in the kitchen. Sigh... 😉
