When I (Helena) came home from work the day before yesterday, the entire living room was remodelled. The sofa group was compressed in one corner and the room had been transformed into a studio for taking photos and filming with a green screen. That Peter always goes "all in" is not exactly news, but what had he come up with now ...? And what does it mean to photograph and film with green screen?
Why film with green screen?
You use green screen to take a photo or film something, and then replace the background with a digital background. For example, if we want to film Peter drinking bubbles on the moon, we can first film him drinking bubbles in front of the green screen. Then we can add the moon as a digital background.
Does this mean that we will now stop travelling and just film ourselves in front of different interesting backgrounds in the world? Haha, no that would be really sad... We promise we won't stop travelling! It just means that my husband loves playing with photography, film and technology.
"Cheating" with ready-made programmes
If you don't want to make your own green screen, you can "cheat" a bit by getting ready-made programmes. This is what Peter did when he recorded the video below. He runs for real, but the ground opening up is the ready-made programme. When you do this, however, there are only certain specific events to choose from. When you have your own green screen, you can do whatever you want.
Making your own green screen
There are a number of ready-made green screens available in stores such as Elgiganten, Kjell & Company and Teknikmagasinet. Peter chose instead to buy green fabric, from Sundbyberg's textile centre, and attach it with clamps to extendable telescopic poles that he found at Rusta. And then, of course, he bought some lamps as well ...
I could have been a bit shocked when I got home, but I guess I'm a bit jaded. Now all that remains is to see what photos and films can be made of this ...

I saw on Instagram that Peter was working on new green projects.

Henny says:
Exciting, I must try that. If a geenscreen is expensive, you can always get green fabric. Just one question: why does it have to be green?
29 November 2017 - 9:02
Helena says:
I think it could possibly be blue as well, but green is the most common colour. If I understand it correctly, it is a good colour because it is clearly different from a human being, for example, so there is a clear contrast. To be able to use the images and films as intended, you need some kind of programme. Peter has Filmora, but someone said you can do things in iMovie as well.

Mr Steve says:
No half measures there. And why buy ready-made when you can do it yourself? Typical Peter too, I think. As if it is not enough to photograph and film what is real in our crazy world.
There is never a dull moment in the FREEDOM world. Always exciting for you to come home from work, I imagine.
I googled green screen and found out that blue screen also works well. Imagine how much I will learn.
29 November 2017 - 10:20
Helena says:
No, it's not often that it gets boring 😉 I don't know much about this, but yes, I've also realised that blue can also work.

Farmers' wives says:
Ha ha! For several years we have had a green wall in the basement for this very purpose. I painted it with paint from Biltema and it was used for a period with successful film results. I have actually thought about repainting it again but left it alone. Someone may want to film again 🙂 Good luck!

Helena says:
Oh what fun! You probably know more about this than I do! What kind of films were made? *curious*

BP says:
Hahaha! So it is a Green Screen. Never heard of it. Like Steve, I appreciate everything new that I learn in bloglandia.
Now, I don't know if I would have been so happy about not having a living room left given the limited space in the houseboat, but as you say - you're tired;-)
It will be fun to see some results of the Green Screen project.
29 November 2017 - 20:37
Helena says:
Haha, no, I'm not happy that my living room disappeared. But Peter has promised that I'll get it back by next weekend 😉 And who knows, there might be some exciting results from this 😉.

Solan says:
In the past, blue was always the colour of choice when faking effects. But honestly, when I saw the "Freedom Boat" explode, I didn't cheer. Seems more fun to tinker with bubbles and bangs!
29 November 2017 - 23:32
Helena says:
I think you can use blue too! And I agree, I prefer bubbly to something that's going to explode 🙂.
