The motorhome is getting too heavy!

When you buy a motorhome for the first time, you don't think much about how much it weighs or how much you can load. At least we didn't. Now we worry about the motorhome being too heavy.

Spacious storage areas

We looked at the loading and storage spaces, and they were indeed spacious and good! But what's the point of having spacious cargo areas if you can't load anything because of the weight limit? I have now read lots of discussions about these issues online, and I realise that we are not alone in this problem...

Total weight and loaded weight

Our car can weigh a total of 3500 kg including cargo and persons. Since the official weight is 3160kg, this means we can only load 340kg. If you start calculating the number of people going into the car, the equipment we've fitted (speakers, TVs, storage boxes), bedding, extra cans of petrol and diesel, waste water, electrical equipment, air conditioning, food, drink and other packing, you'll quickly realise that you'll exceed these kilos! You feel a bit cheated ... Why do they sell motorhomes with huge storage spaces when you can't pack anything in them?

Higher load weight

It is our understanding that there is a small chance that the motorhome can be re-registered for a higher gross vehicle weight. At least there seems to be a small possibility if the car is originally built for a higher load weight. We're not sure about our car yet, but we really need to be able to load more! Does anyone have any experience in re-registering the motorhome for a higher load weight?
