Right now we are testing camping on Lake Garda in Italy. We are on the south-west side of Garda, at Piantelle camping. The motorhome is full of wine from the best Valpolicella and we have Lake Garda next to us. Join us on a camping trip on Lake Garda in Italy and the Piantelle campsite in text and pictures!
Living in a motorhome on a farm
When we were wine tasting in the wine valleys of Valpolicella, we drove in the evening to a farm in Colá called Ca´Donzella. After asking if we could eat in the farm's restaurant, it was also possible to stay overnight in the motorhome at no extra cost.
We had a five-course dinner with wine and an incredible amount of food on their outdoor terrace. The first really good Italian dinner we have ever had! The bill ended up at about 1000 SEK for three people and you can hardly complain about that, especially since the overnight stay was included.
Motorhome parking in Sirmione
The next night we found a site in Sirmione on the south side of Lake Garda. There were really a lot of motorhomes! Even huge Concordes and camper vans (I wonder how you manage to drive them on the small Italian roads?). It cost 18 euros per night to stay over, but unfortunately there was no electricity. After two nights without electricity we started to miss music, video games, computer and phones. In addition, we have a 13-year-old who longed for a pool ...
Camping at Lake Garda
Now we have gone to a campsite again. The prices at campsites on the northern side were slightly better, but here it is very expensive and it is difficult to find a campsite that charges less than 500 SEK for a motorhome and three people. It is clearly more affordable to stand on a pitch, but right now it has to be camping even if we feel like a little involuntary campers ...
We are at camping Piantelle (website), which is an excellent campsite with good service and nice pools. The weather is also fantastic with sunshine every day, from morning to evening!
