Now we have travelled south along Lake Garda and stayed at an absolutely huge campsite called La Rocca. We drove the road along the lake, with a fantastic view of the water, the mountains and all the small cosy villages.

Through Austria by motorhome

We stayed one night at a campsite in Hall, just outside Innsbruck. Of course, on the roads of the Austrian Alps we couldn't drive as fast as on the Autobahn, but instead we had a great view. Billie and I were hanging out of our respective windows with our cameras ...

Österrike

It started to rain as we drove through Austria, which didn't suit us, so we packed up and moved on to sweet Italy. On the way, a light came on, showing an engine in yellow. It didn't look good... Nervously, we set the GPS to a workshop in Bolzano in northern Italy.

Stop at workshop on the road

There was a three-hour stop, with a guy who obviously didn't know English. There was sign language and some technical equipment. The guy at the workshop called Fiat and asked, and it was something with oil and gearbox, but we could take it when we got home to our rainy Sweden. It cost nothing, phew how nice.

Towards Lake Garda

Put the sat nav back on and head straight to Lake Garda, which many people say is nice. We can only agree, it really is true. Why go down to the Mediterranean and deal with thousands of tourists when everything is here?

Along Lake Garda by motorhome

As long as you follow the road straight ahead, the motorhome is fine. If you want to turn off or stop, it gets worse ... We looked for a grocery store and saw several, but it took quite a while before we found a place where it was also possible to park our big car ...

This is Italy at its best. Small restaurants everywhere, small roads where you can't turn your camper, high mountains with the lake in the middle, Mediterranean heat, the best wine on earth, good cheeses and olives. This is nice!

Difficulty with language

We must also say that Germans and Italians are often very bad at English. Billie wonders why they are worse at English than the Thais, and one might wonder ...? It is always possible to make oneself understood, but it is difficult with some longer conversations ... However, a nice Swedish couple from Vallentuna, with an almost identical motorhome as ours, invited us for a drink in their motorhome yesterday before continuing their journey today.

Different requests

When you're travelling as a family, there are different requests and sometimes you have to compromise. Peter and I want to go to a vineyard and Billie wants a pool. Now we have stayed two days at this huge campsite, called La Rocca, because there is a pool. Today we are going to start looking for vineyards ...
