When we left the campsite at Lake Garda, the girls at the reception asked anxiously if we had any reservation at Venice. We did not, and since they looked so worried, we became a little worried. But it was no problem!

Campeggio Venezia

At Campeggio Venezia there were plenty of places. Must also say that the campsites here in Italy are very different! At some there is a Miniclub and "It is nice to be happy" songs by the pool so that you feel transferred to a charter holiday in the Canary Islands. Others have young backpackers cooking tinned food on a spirit stove and drinking wine on the grass. Campeggio Venezia leaned more towards the latter, although there were also plenty of camper vans.

Local bus to Venice

The day after we arrived we took the local bus to Venice. After waiting for an hour, it was a short journey in compact crowds. Peter and I have been to Venice, but we were keen to show the boys the city. We got exactly the same impression this time as last; beautiful architecture, expensive disgusting food and good ice cream. We didn't bother to queue for all the sights, but we did go inside the Doge's Palace where we were also down in the dungeons (where Peter managed to lock the rest of us behind bars...).

We also had a lunch consisting of one (small, thin and chewy) pizza each, one beer each for me and Peter and two 33 cl colas for the guys. It ended up at the tidy sum of 800 SEK... Now we have moved on to a campsite higher up on the Adriatic Sea. As usual, we drink wine and bubbles every day, but if you have a motorhome, you have to keep your class ...
