Three years ago, at exactly this time of year, we travelled around New Zealand by motorhome. We travelled around the North Island and South Island with a rented motorhome. (It was our first time with a motorhome, and we were a little bit saved, you could say...) We also have to say that New Zealand is absolutely amazing! Now we wanted to share some pictures from this trip. Here comes Part 1.

Auckland with horse riding and Sky Tower

We flew to Auckland and there, at the airport, the motorhome was waiting for us. It was the first time we travelled in a motorhome and it was left-hand traffic. A bit difficult to get used to in the beginning!

The first night we were really tired after the flight and slept for 12 hours. Then the adventure began! We had booked a horse riding tour a bit north of Auckland, which was fantastic. Then we drove back to Auckland and had Christmas dinner in the Sky Tower, overlooking the whole city.

Living volcano on White Island

Our next booked adventure was to go out to White Island for a visit to a live volcano. Waow! It bubbled and hissed everywhere and smelled really bad. On the way home from there, we saw a whole pod of dolphins playing alongside the boat.

Would you like to read about the rest of our motorhome trip in New Zealand? We had adventures in the cool city of Rotorua, from zorbing to white water rafting. We then moved on to the South Island where we discovered the Abel Tasman National Park and went whale watching in Kaikoura and swimming with dolphins in Akaroa. We also had a quad bike ride and a boat ride in a glacial lake at Mt Cook.
