Can you build your own motorhome? We have a motorhome, but sometimes we've wanted a more off-road motorhome, and buying one seems far too expensive. Would it be possible to build one yourself?
All-terrain vehicles from Action Mobil
I emailed Actionmobil today and asked what it would cost to buy an "Economy" model car. I received a quick and very nicely worded reply. And the price? 200,000 - 250,000 euros excluding VAT. It will NOT be easy to come up with ... Maybe you can buy a used Scania chassis and build it yourself? What do you reckon?
Building your own motorhome
We have no experience of building motorhomes ourselves, but we have seen a whole range of home-built ones. It seems that people are doing a few different things. One variant seems to be to build the interior of an existing lorry or van and another variant seems to be to build a motorhome on an existing chassis. A third variant that we have seen is when you take a caravan and attach it to a lorry chassis or similar.

I've been thinking about it myself, especially since I've seen some camper vans fitted with military lorries, they're not yet on the market, but when the army has used them up in a few years, it might be a "highlight"!
Wishing you and yours a very nice weekend!
Hugs from Peter!

Oh, no, it certainly wasn't free. If you are a little handy, you can probably fix most things if you want to.
Good luck!

Oh dear. It will be expensive to buy a new one. But damn, it can be worth it. 🙂 What adventures it can be! Nice weekend!

Peter, interesting that there are also camper van decorated military trucks. It would be interesting to see them! But now we have actually decided to build them ourselves. It will of course be a big project, but fun
😉
Helly, yes, you have to be a bit handy. It is fortunate that Peter has a construction company... He has built most things, including a houseboat. He has never built a motorhome, but you have to have some challenges too.

Hello & hello!
What dreams you have, unbelievable. A good friend of mine built a motorhome on a Scania 93 a number of years ago. He made the body in fibreglass. It weighed 12 tonnes and cost about 10 million. It had a washing machine, leather sofas and gold-plated handles in what you put in. The same person produced the Öggestorp President 630 caravan, also in fibreglass. But you want to be able to stop and shop and find a place to live. I think you think a little less. I wish you really good luck.

Matts, yes, we think a little less... a little less than 10 million anyway
😉
But that sounds like a fascinating building! There are no pictures of it anywhere? Would be fun to see ...

Nice reading! And when I replied to your post and wrote that we often call our steel frame "The RR Defender of the seas", I marked that we may have the same approach. It will be exciting to follow you! But Helena should probably drag Peter there so he can make a page for us calendar biters who want to know EVERYTHING (and I mean EVERYTHING) about the Freedom car! 🙂

Captain Nemo, we're excited about it too! Promise to tell you all about the construction, when we get started ...
😉
This spring and summer, we'll be travelling with our current "Freedom", while brainstorming ideas for the future...
