Flying is supposed to be very safe, but sometimes I can't help but wonder. Both DN and Aftonbladet report today on a Jas plane that in 2007 was a few seconds away from colliding with a passenger plane.
Many incidents
In the last nine years, 781 similar incidents have occurred in Sweden. How often is it really "close"? And doesn't the increase in air traffic entail greater risks? I myself have been involved in two "incidents".
- I queued to get on one of the small aeroplanes from Hemön off Iceland to the mainland after a festival. I didn't make it and had to take a boat instead. One of the planes crashed and all eight people on board died.
- I flew with SAS from Gotland to Bromma. As we are descending to land, the pilot suddenly turns and flies upwards again. Then he says "There was a plane on the runway".
Have you had any incidents while flying?
thePilla says:
Close and close, as a pilot you always put safety first and a "close" indication doesn't have to be really close... Interesting question.

Rondine says:
No, fortunately.
Just air pockets...

Maggan says:
We only had one incident in '96 when the plane we were on from the USA "fell" 1 kilometre. It was scary. Many people who were not strapped in were injured, things were flying around in the plane. When something like that happens, you understand why you should put your bags under the seat in front and why you should sit belted the whole trip, because you don't know when it will happen.

Pilla, maybe you're right? It is difficult to know what they mean by "close". But on the other hand, isn't it a sign that security at that moment is not optimal?
Maggan, that sounds scary! I've never experienced that, but I usually sit with my seatbelt on. Usually it does not disturb, and if that should happen, it is not wrong ...

Ninny says:
No, fortunately, I do not have it ... although one wonders if the pilot was really sober when we flew to Hungary a few years ago! Jesus, how bumpy, wobbly and strange he flew. You have been through turbulence and other things, but this took the price, before landing ... thought we fell down on the roofs of the houses in Budapest.

Efwa says:
No, strangely enough, I haven't experienced anything worse than a few air pockets and a small jump when we landed once. But I always wear my seatbelt when I fly, even if I loosen it a bit during the journey.

Mr Gabriel says:
We often hear that flying is now safe in 2010. But the question still remains, how safe are airlines?

Mr Nils-Åke Hansson says:
I don't find it particularly pleasant to fly.
I remember three things that I find unpleasant. We go down for landing over Gotröra Arlanda, the whole plane shakes and the wings flap like a goose.
We go down for landing to Ängelholm when there is a strong wind and the pilot pulls on and goes up again.
I was on my way to England when the aircraft shook three times and it shook a lot, the pilot tells me this is perfectly normal.

Yes, it is a bit difficult to know, isn't it? It's a bit scary to hear that many people have experienced situations that felt unpleasant. At the same time, it's a bit difficult to judge whether the situation was actually risky or whether it was "completely normal"?
The question is whether we will see more air accidents in the future (due to high traffic density and economic pressure) or is it the case that safety will actually increase and accidents will decrease?

Huuu how scary with point 1! I get more and more afraid of flying the older I get :/

Skrunk says:
You tremble where you sit when you read paragraph one!
like Camilla, you become more afraid of even approaching an aeroplane as you get older xD

Camilla and Skrunk, I also become more and more afraid of flying the older I get. At the same time, I refuse to become one! I do not want to be a victim of my fear, so I fly again! You probably die in a completely different way, so it seems silly to limit your life by not being able to fly!
