The House of Yacoubian, by Alaa Al-Aswany is a fascinating story! In the heart of Cairo there is a house built in European style in the 1930s. Back then, millionaires and ministers lived here. Now it is a blissful mix of people.
Sex, power and religion
In the fancy flats live the gay editor-in-chief and the corrupt rich man who bends the Koran to satisfy his desires. In the sheds on the roof live the poor woman who learns to get by in a society ruled by men's desires and the gatekeeper's son who wants to be a policeman but is denied entry and turns to religious fundamentalism. Sex, power and religion in a megadose!

Sounds like an exciting book. Thanks for the tip. I already follow Marianne's blog and she writes heavenly well 🙂.
How nice that you have been interviewed. If you know when you will be in Amelia, let me know and I will ask someone at home to buy the number for me.
Hugs!

how cosy! A little jealous but at the same time I would have missed mum, dad and the sisters. It would have been optimal if the absolute closest ones could come with me to a paradise island far away 🙂 Otherwise, Tokyo was the first choice when it came to the marriage site, but it did not go home with the future husband so it did not happen.
Do you have pictures from when you got married on your blog?
How is Vietnam? We both really want to go there!!! Was in Thailand very much as a child (the first time I was there was 12 years ago) and I have heard that Vietnam should be a bit like Thailand in the past, would be great to find such a place again!
have a wonderful day!

Helly, we'll try to tell you when the report in Amelia is coming!
Maxiander, we have been to both Vietnam and Thailand and highly recommend Vietnam! Same climate, but less exploited and less tourists!
