Today we have done rafting in the river Vindelälven. The organisers are called Forsknäckarna and the trip started from Ekorrsele, between Umeå and Lycksele. The uppermost rapids were level 4 (levels 1-6, where 6 counts as harmless with danger to life). The highest waves were about 3 metres high. A real adrenaline rush!
Challenging yourself
I (Helena) thought it was a little too very challenging, which of course has to do with the fact that I'm a little bit stubborn when it comes to these things, but I'm glad I managed it! The others mainly thought it was a really fun adventure!
We are all very happy with the day and can definitely recommend it. Researchers if anyone wants to try rafting! We got very good instructions and had a very nice day.
Rafting in the Vindelälven river - an adrenaline rush
We first got some instructions on land, and then the instructions continued in the boat as we slowly slid towards the rapids and heard the noise increase in intensity. Above all, the instructions were that you have to continue paddling in the rapids to avoid overturning. There were a lot of other instructions as well, but the closer you got to the noise, the harder it was to concentrate. Eventually we arrived!
The waves we encountered felt huge and we had to paddle for all we were worth in order not to fall over. I have never paddled so much or so hard in my life before, but we made it. We didn't tip over! My heart was beating hard, but then the rapids calmed down and we could even take a swim. What an experience, a real adrenaline rush!
We started from a camp that Forsknäckarna has with a high-altitude course, axe throwing, archery, a hot tub and accommodation with a restaurant. Read more about high-altitude railway on the river Vindelälven
Continued journey towards Umeå
After the rafting, we drove to Umeå. As usual, there are reindeer everywhere so you can't drive so fast, but now we have arrived and are at a campsite relatively central. We will soon tell you more about the further journey!

We tried rafting in New Zealand as well, but the rapids were at a slightly lower level. There are a few different levels of difficulty if you want to try it... For me it would have been enough with a more gentle rapids, but not everyone agreed with me....
