We had booked a rafting trip in the Vindelälven river at noon, but when we arrived at Forsknäckarna in Ekorrsele, between Lycksele and Umeå, there had been a misunderstanding and the boats were full. We were offered our own tour at 16.00, and in the meantime we got, at no extra cost, both food and a high-altitude course. A fair deal we thought!
High altitude course with a view
Researchers is located in Ekorrsele, on the Vindelälven river between Lycksele and Umeå. Here you enter a large forested area that really breathes adventure. Perhaps you come here mainly to do the following activities rafting in the Vindelälven river, but there are more adventures to be had.
The high-altitude course goes really high up, with a dizzying view of the beautiful Vindelälven river. Peter and Pontus accepted the challenge immediately and without hesitation. "I'm afraid of heights and prefer to stay on the ground. But it was exciting enough to watch from below ...! It wasn't easy if you were to believe Peter and Pontus, but they both managed the challenge very well.
Pontus in the high-altitude track
Pontus started and did great, even though it looked really difficult at times... I was happy to just hold the camera!
Peter in the high-altitude railway
Then it was Peter's turn! He did great too, although he also found it challenging at times... After this adventure, we were all hungry of course. We were served a good lunch buffet and then it was just to charge for the next adventure ...! Rafting was what we really came here for.
As well as the high-altitude course, you can shoot a bow and arrow, throw an axe and throw yourself down a rope and drop into the lake from many metres in the air. They have overnight accommodation for groups and a sauna with a wood-burning stove. Stay and just have an adventure for one or more nights and enjoy the Swedish nature.

I didn't dare either... I'm too afraid of heights to try it, but it looked really difficult! Peter and Pontus managed it really well, but in some places it was probably a real challenge...!
