On Aftonbladet you can vote for the hottest travel destinations in 2011. Under each category there are a number of options to choose from. However, we think that they have missed many interesting destinations, and as usual, we are a little guided in our thoughts about destinations. So here is Freedomtravel's completely unofficial list of alternative destinations!
The hottest travel destinations in 2011 - according to us
The destinations are based (in some cases) on experience and otherwise on curiosity... Where do you want to go in 2011?
Ferferi in Paris/Gothenburg says:
I must say that Poland is extremely attractive to me. Seems to still be somewhat untouched (well, relatively) from lots of tourists. Good food. Genuine people. Nice environments... but the dream destination of them all is probably somewhere on some island in the Caribbean or along the coast of Africa... sigh.

Have not been to any of the places, but think that the dream trip sounds undeniably very interesting! Whao! What a dream!
China - both yes and no ... Smögen, I think you have to try to get there sometime, it is a fair distance anyway as long as you work and have a fairly short holiday.

Poland is nice, have travelled there a couple of times, both times we ended up in Krakow. The Carpathians are really appealing but then we would prefer to go in the summer and hike. Have hiked in most other major mountain areas in Europe + the Fann Mountains in Tajikistan and the Andes in Peru. It is so nice!
We went to Samarkand with World Travel, our first group trip ever, but we were going to both Tajikistan and Uzbekistan where there are quite complicated entry and customs regulations and where we do not know the language so it had to be so. Samarkand came "on the purchase", the main goal was the hike, but is clearly worth a separate trip as well.

Ferferi, one of those exotic islands wouldn't go amiss!
😉
Leena, what exciting hikes you have done! Funny that you write about Samarkand. Almost sounds like you have been on the same trip as "anonymous" in the post below!
Samarkand is a bit of a dream destination for me, want to go there on occasion!

I hope that 2011 offers me a trip to Italy, the country in my heart. Otherwise, I'm curious about Portugal. It's nice to have a different destination. I imagine that Poland has a lot to offer.
