According to a press release from SCR today, winter camping is hotter than ever and the most popular campsites are almost fully booked. Along with the press release, SCR also offers 10 tips for the inexperienced winter camper.
Cold list for winter camping
At Kläppens Camping in Sälen there is a waiting list for people who want to camp throughout the winter season, but there are still gaps for those who want to make a short visit with a caravan or motorhome.
Winter camping - 10 tips for beginners
Here are ten tips for those interested in going winter camping with a motorhome or caravan.
- Ensure your motorhome/caravan is winterised with extra insulation.
- Carry double gas tubes for extra warmth in case of a cold snap.
- Have a good, sturdy winter tent with a solid wooden floor to provide more storage space.
- Store ski equipment in the awning - not in the caravan or motorhome.
- Support the caravan's wheels with wood to prevent them from freezing to the ground.
- Dry wet ski clothes and boots in the campsite service centre.
- Use the campsite's common room/playroom to get the kids off their feet in the afternoons and evenings!
- Take everything that can freeze in drawers and cupboards when you leave the caravan.
- Empty the water tank and toilet when leaving the caravan.
- Talk to your camping neighbours for more tips on smart solutions.

Spontaneously, how hard it sounds! You have so much stuff with you every time you go to the mountains. I have a small apartment in the mountains outside Åre, the small drying cabinet in the bathroom is knee thick to dry all your stuff... The car is thick with stuff, for maybe only at best 2- 3 days... But! It is so wonderful to get out, so you do all this anyway! Year after year! As luck would have it!
