In the run-up to summer 2011, five distinctive trends can be seen in the private travelling habits of Swedes. The trends are presented through the Resia Barometer, Resia's regular survey of the Swedish people's travelling habits.
5 residual trends for summer 2011
- First minute - Many people know where they want to holiday and book their trip well in advance. Their favourite beach is Alcudia, Mallorca.
- The hotel controls the journey - The hotel sometimes becomes more important than the destination and the experience should be special. The top hotel is the Burj Al Arab, Dubai.
- Classic travel destinations stand the test of time - Turkey, Greece and Spain are at the top of the list and this year's rising star is Bulgaria. In Sweden, the west coast is the most popular.
- Themed trips - More organisers are offering themed content and many want to get active. Many trips focus on exercise or food.
- All inclusive is spreading - More and more travellers and target groups want All Inclusive, but especially families with children.
Trends on the rise
- Volunteer trips
- Cruises for all
- Hotels with water parks
- Personal travel consultant
- Shopping holidays outside Europe
Trends on the way down
- Homestay (holidaying at home)
- Nude holidays

Mmm... what an appetite! We go on a self-organised trip to Beijing in June and stay with friends with a personal guide. All inclusive is not my thing..... but is certainly wonderful too!

LeiaMia, how fun to experience Beijing that way, with friends and a personal guide! We also do not like All Inclusive, we want to experience more of the country when we travel, not just a hotel. I usually get tired of eating at the hotel after a meal... But it certainly suits some people, perhaps especially tired parents with small children...

Yes, that's it ... All inclusive was not something I thought would be relevant for us, but oh how good it was both in Egypt and in the Canary Islands. Lots of different kinds of food (a lot was really good too, different country themes every day) right when it was time to eat and lunch boxes to bring when we deviated from the hotel. Never whiny children due to low blood sugar. So perfect for families with children! However, I would never travel that way without children (precisely because the noise level is not the most cosy in large dining rooms). Then we prefer the more spontaneous with food in different places depending on where you end up that day.

I definitely want to go to Beijing in this life. However, this year it will be a real "wasteful holiday" to Samos in June. We like Greece and appreciate the heat and sun especially in early summer. It feels like you are completely starved of such things right now. We also like to just be, read a lot, watch people, go around to different beaches - in short, socialise. After "raising" four children, it feels great to actually be able to do that. Although there are only two of us! And then the food - Greece is usually a safe card! Lovely, lovely they will be! (Surely the trip is almost best at the planning stage.)

Johanna, no, I know many people who would probably not go on All Inclusive without children, but who are happy to do so now that they have a bunch... Guess you're busy anyway, so it can probably be comfortable.
🙂
Agnes in Lund, it can be nice to have a "wasteful holiday" sometimes. We probably also appreciate both parts, or to mix a little, maybe both a little adventure / experiences and slacking on the beach with a good book. We have actually never been to Greece, but we are aiming for Croatia and Montenegro this summer, so it is not so far away. I do not know if I think the planning is the best, but certainly it is a really big and wonderful part of travelling!

We first considered Croatia - including a trip to Venice - but were surprised that it was so much more expensive than Greece.

Agnes in Lund, was it the actual trip to Croatia that was more expensive? We haven't really thought about that because we're taking the campervan. On the other hand, I can imagine that prices are a bit higher there too....
