Yesterday we organised a French dinner and wine tasting at home. We tried five French wines, from different grapes and in different price ranges. We made the French dinner together: we cooked the main course and Robin and Alexandra brought the starter and dessert.
French wines
There were many glasses on the table! We're not used to drinking French wines (it's mostly Italian usually), so it was difficult, but fun and interesting.
Wines from left: Paul Sapin from 2008, Volnay from 2008, Chateau des Annereaux from 2004, Chateau Giscours from 2006 and Cotes du Rhone from 2007. We thought a little differently, but everyone liked the last wine, Cotes du Rhone, for 100 SEK at Systemet. A spicy wine with hints of barrel and plum, which goes well with slightly heavier meat dishes.
Menu
Appetiser: Snails with garlic and herb butter. Neither of us had eaten snails before, so it was a new experience. It wasn't too bad, although it wasn't a favourite. Maybe you have to get used to it?
Main course: Oven-roasted beef fillet, potato gratin with chèvre, haricot verts and red wine sauce.
Dessert: Chocolate mousse with cream and grated chocolate. Isn't it beautiful? Later in the evening, a small selection of French cheeses was also offered ...

Paris is lovely and I look forward to seeing even more 🙂 You have to go there, right? 🙂
Thanks for all the comments on my blog by the way! That's appreciated! 😀
Ps - I think you are very daring to talk about "Escargot"... I will probably never ever try that 😉.

What a night! I would have gone straight to the main course and finished with the cheeses. Snails are not my favourite. Once was enough!
Wine tasting is great fun, but I have no idea about all the things you need to know. I usually go by feel! 🙂

Just Another Crazy Blonde, we also thought we were quite brave
😉
Veiken, snails were a bit interesting to try... but I can't say I was sold. When it comes to wine tasting we are not very knowledgeable either. But we have quite a lot of fun trying to figure out if the wine tastes like "saddle" or "raspberry"...
😉

What a lovely dinner - everything is fantastic. Snails are really good, but I have found that I can't stand them, which is very sad.
You should try really powerful wines from Corbières at some point. However, they are not very often on the system because they mostly buy from large cooperatives and they are neither typical nor good most of the time.

Jan Granath, it's a shame to not be able to tolerate what you think is good! Thanks for the wine tip!
