Today Peter went shopping for new wine glasses for the campervan. Of the old six wine glasses, five (!) have broken. Not during a wild party, if anyone thought so, but in almost all cases when we washed and dried them. The glass has simply come off the base. The new ones are made in one piece, so they shouldn't break as easily.
Polycarbonate wine glasses
The new glasses are also made of polycarbonate, which according to Wikipedia is a plastic with "exceptional durability". The glasses cost 45 SEK each at Mälarcamp in Upplands Väsby. Really nice too, right?
Krister in Beijing says:
As an engineer, I can confirm that if the glass is polycarbonate ("PC"), it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to break it.

Very practical and stylish! But nowadays we use thin, real wine and beer glasses that hang in practical holders, clever if there is room of course.

Matts Torebring says:
We also supply coffee mugs in the same material. During a customer visit some 10 years ago, I offered a customer SEK 100 if he managed to break the coffee mug. "It was easy money", the customer said, and put it in a buckle in the front door. The mug just bounced like a ball between the walls and was completely undamaged. The rinse cycle in the dishwasher can crack them at the bottom of the moulding point after perhaps 10 years of daily dishwashing.
But then you can afford to buy new...
