We have heard rumours that it is hot in southern Europe... We have AC in the driver's cabin when we are driving, but we have no AC in the living area that can be used when we are parked. Most motorhome owners know that such an AC is not free, and it is not relevant for us before the trip. Instead, we have now acquired two wall-mounted fans!
Purchase and installation of fans
We simply bought two wall-mounted fans at Claes Ohlson, which Peter then mounted above the beds. So we have mounted a fan at the foot of the bed in the back of the motorhome and a fan at the foot of the bed in the alcove. We hope they can get a nice breeze in the summer heat... Do you have an AC or a fan in your motorhome?

Deciree, some options for Gothenburg (where you can also stay overnight) :
1) Parking at Grönsakstorget (very central and we've parked here twice, but the motorhome must not stick out of the window, at least not in a way that disturbs, otherwise you risk a fine).
2) Skeppsbron, next to Casino Cosmopol. There are car parks along the length of the bridge, so there is plenty of room.
3) Liseberg's Skatås car park (haven't tried it): http://liseberg.se/sv/hem/Boende/Camping/Lisebergs-Stallplats-Skatas/
4) Slottsskogen - haven't tried it, but I've heard that others usually stand there.

Hi, I just want to tell you that I have installed a mobile AC in the living area. As the garage is large, it is just to lash it down while travelling and later just pull it out. Cools fantastically well at a significantly better price and weight (about SEK 3500 and just over 20 kg).

Oh, interesting! Maybe someone also has knowledge of how http://www.fiammastore.com/Fiamma-Rooflights-and-Vents-for-caravans-and-motorhomes/Fiamma-Turbo-Kit-Fan works and/or if there are similar ones from competing brands. I have cast long eyes on it ... think we will invest in such as long as we get confirmation that it fits our roof hatch Remis and get one 🙂 .
Many years ago we got the tip from a lady from the hot regions of the Missisippi river that the best cooling is to have a fan in an open window, directed to blow into the room and we still think she was speaking from experience 🙂 she had tried most of the things she told us as well 🙂.

Katarina, thanks for the tips! We will consider all options before buying, but it won't be this summer....
Snobben, maybe someone knows? We looked at different models a while ago, but it was quite a long time ago. Since we now only have fans, we will have to try having the fan in an open window.
😉

Our heatwaves here in the Alentejo hinterland are no joke. Now it's perhaps not the cost of the AC that's the big problem, but the fact that it requires electricity. A fan blowing in the cooler night air outside is exactly what works (our fan takes about 24 watts). Then also take a shower bottle, preferably the kind that you can pump up pressure with. Then shower the bed linen and yourself, eventually the heat will give way and you can sleep. When water evaporates (in dry heat), the temperature drops by about 10 degrees.

We have a small pillar fan with us that we can have in the tent. AC probably doesn't work, haha.
Last year we had great use of it when camping in Andalucía, but here in Galicia where we are right now, it has not been needed. Quite cool and very comfortable nights 🙂 .

Where to buy the fan? Very clever solution. I have been looking for a long time for such a fan that can be wall-mounted in the caravan.

Yesterday we looked in Tagene Fritidscenter, which had an ordered and returned Fiamma Turbo Kit fan behind the counter! However, it was not complete in the box.... so we could not buy it, but have found that it fits our roof hatch so now an order will be placed! 🙂 Will return with evaluation in the future when acquired and used 😉
