We are travelling with the campervan through six countries with three different currencies. Today we have exchanged some cash in these currencies. Here are our tips for managing money when travelling by motorhome. Do you have more tips?
10 tips for managing money while travelling
- Bring some cash in the relevant currencies. Cards do not always work.
- Bring a credit card - preferably both Master and Visa (sometimes only one works).
- Please pay with credit card (more secure than a card linked to an account).
- If the card is linked to an account - don't keep too much money in the account (bring the dosa to the online bank and transfer more as you go along).
- Keep money and cards in more than one place, so you don't risk losing everything if something happens.
- Lock any securities you don't need at the moment in a safe bolted to the motorhome.
- Do not leave valuables visible from the windows when you leave the motorhome.
- Don't leave valuables in an easily accessible place when you sleep.
- Include a phone number to block stolen credit cards.
- Keep plenty of small change and change - it's easier to avoid being tricked into paying too much.

Good advice. I completely agree with you about the money. You first get a little sniffy when the Visa or Shell card is not good enough and then learn to keep some money in your pocket just in case.
Campsites, caravan parks and some food chains may want cash. It's also good to make sure you have some one and two euro coins on hand for different vending machines.

Good advice is probably right! You always need money. It would be easier if all countries had the same currency.
Small money is also good, just crowns (you are quite often over to Sweden) and one, five and ten crowns we usually collect in a small special jar to have for example parking machines, shower machines and so on.

Hello!
Here are two tips. If you're travelling to the US, though maybe not with your motorhome :-), having and paying with an American Express card opens some doors.
If you are travelling across the Öresund Bridge, it may be worth getting a BroBizz. A small box that you put in the front windscreen, it belongs to a BroKort that you link to a credit card. Then you just drive and the bridge passage is registered automatically and at a lower price than if you had paid cash/card. This box (BroBizz) also applies to the Great Belt Bridge in Denmark, the shipping companies HH-Ferries and Scandlines, and the AutoPass tolls in Norway. Very smooth to just drive through and it flashes in the car and lights up green lights! 😉

Ulrika, thanks for the tips! Especially the one about the bridge is worth remembering, although it might be more relevant if you travel often. How do you get that then?
