We have previously organised dinner and wine tasting with a French theme. Last night it was time for a Spanish theme. The dinner was organised at the home of Robin (Peter's son) and Alexandra, who also made all the hot tapas. We took cold tapas with us. Wow, how much food there was! And how delicious! We probably won't need to eat for a week...
Spanish wines
The five Spanish wines we tried can be seen in the picture below. There were four Rioja and one wine from a wine district just south of Rioja. It was interesting to try and compare Spanish wines, but we didn't find the differences to be too great, and even the cheaper wines held their own.
Spanish tapas
We cooked many different things and it was (of course!) too much food. Cold dishes included honeydew melon wrapped in serrano ham, tomato salsa with olives and feta, spicy bean dip and blue cheese cream with endive leaves. Hot dishes were then served: mince pies, meat and chicken skewers, baked potatoes, Spanish sausages, lamb meatballs and quesadillas.

Wow, it looked good to say the least!!! Would have given my right hand to taste - or maybe not quite so drastic but it looked damn good!!!

Nice to have a Spanish wine and food tasting! We have had the same experience with Spanish wines. The differences are in many cases very small.
Thank you for many great tips in your blog! We wish you a nice summer!

How hungry I was, even though I move around in all this wonderful stuff every day, right now in Marbella Spain. But isn't it true that when the stomach is filled with lots of good food, it "stretches out" and holds even more the next day?

Inger and Ingemar, glad you find good tips in our blog! Wishing you a nice summer too!
Matts, yes, it feels like that particular phenomenon occurs all too easily... and strangely enough, we have been able to eat again today without any problems.

It really looks delicious!!! Great tapas, lots of flavours and fun to prepare. Thinking about a small party this summer and it will probably be to pick out the tapas tips in the bookshelf.

What a nice wine tasting! I myself work with Rioja in Sweden and agree with you that even the wines in the lower price range are of high quality. If you do a similar tasting in the future, a tip could be to try both modern and traditional Riojas - then you will also notice a big difference between the different styles. Enjoy!
