The Tsarskoe Selo themed restaurant in Kiev offers lively performances by Ukrainian musicians in traditional dress. Here you can experience Ukraine's friendliness at its best, along with nubbe and good food. You come to Tsarskoe Selo in Kiev for good food and a great atmosphere.
First evening in Kiev
For Peter, Robin and Alexandra, the first evening was a visit to the Tsarskoe Selo restaurant. Unfortunately, I spent the first evening in the hotel room with a migraine. There was not much to choose from, because when I get sick, I get sick.
Fortunately, the rest of the group was able to get out and look around the city and have a real Ukrainian dinner at a restaurant. And I have been to Tsarskoe Selo before!
Lighting and decorations
The whole Kiev is lit up, it feels like. Every building is lit up and decorated with lights and there is a large illuminated Christmas tree in the main square. It's actually really nice to be here at this time!
When the whole city is lit up in this way, it doesn't feel as dark as it might otherwise. In the picture below you can see one of the decorated houses in the city centre, and in the background you can see our hotel, Hotel Ukraine.
Restaurant Tsarskoe Selo
Restaurant Tsarskoe Selo is located in a charming little house a short taxi ride from the centre of Kiev. We were here two years ago, and what I remember from that time was Ukrainian music and a nice festive atmosphere.
It was very sad not to be able to attend this time, but what I did get to hear about were lively performances by Ukrainian musicians in traditional clothes, a neighbouring table where there was a lot of drinking, and a strange Ukrainian dessert consisting of a big chewy piece of fat covered in chocolate ...
Apart from being sad that I couldn't be there, the rest of the group seems to have been really happy with the restaurant experience. The atmosphere was really great as it was the last time we were here. The whole place is set up like a scrub around Christmas and then I mean everything. What a wonderful environment it is to just be here! Find the restaurant's website here.
