In Lonely Planet's blog, you can get five tips to make travelling more fun. "Travelling to find happiness is probably always doomed to failure. It comes when you forget yourself and immerse yourself wherever you go." What do you think? When do you have the most fun while travelling?
5 travel-friendly rules
Here are five rules for travelling.
- Say "yes" as much as you can - Always postpone a plan or skip a museum to accept an invitation to a venue.
- Talking to people, asking things - You can do more than you think and become interested in things you didn't think you cared about.
- Make something positive out of delays - Small mishaps can sometimes lead to something good
- Get creative with views - You can find views in surprising places
- Stop - Slow travelling is more rewarding than fast travelling and simply stopping is often the best option.
Leena says:
We always have fun and enjoy every second when we are travelling...... and we never drive wrong or get lost but we do extra sightseeing tours. We travel with open eyes and if something fun happens, we change our travel plans because they are never fixed, but the day can control:)

It was really good advice, but advice that you rarely hear. You have a lot of experience and obviously know how to make a nice trip. You can't just sit back and let the trip happen if you want to get something out of it. You have to be a bit active yourself too. And try not to get hung up on small things.

Great line! My husband who travelled around the world for 3 years always says: if nothing happens, stick to your plan. That is, take all possibilities into account and only follow the plan if nothing happens! I myself tend to get a little stressed and have to do as much as possible instead of actually enjoying, which the holiday is for!

Across the board says:
The best is when you follow your "gut feeling" and dare to be impulsive. That's when the best (most unexpected) things can happen. Planning is fun and we do it, but then we don't follow much of the original plan.

Leena, it sounds like you have the right travel "feel".
😉
Inga Magnusson, yes, I do believe in planning a bit in advance, but then being open to changing the plans...
Pia, sounds like a good way to go!
😉
Steve, you might actually be right about that!
Fantasydining, we liked Vietnam a lot! Nice climate, friendly people, easy to travel on your own and not as exploited as Thailand (at least not in central and northern Vietnam where we were). Good food by the way and good prices. We can really recommend Vietnam!
Across the board, we also plan, and I think that's a good thing! But some of the most memorable events afterwards are often things we didn't plan...
