Reports From chaos to collaboration provides a picture of what our travelling will look like in 2020. And it seems that technology in particular is revolutionising our travel. Fantastic and fascinating - or a bit scary?
From chaos to collaboration
Produced by The Futures Company, the report is presented by Amadeus, a provider of advanced transaction-based technology solutions for the global travel and tourism industry. Here are the main findings of the report:
- Technology-based travel experiences - Destination experiences are influenced by technologies such as augmented reality, 4G and game-inspired design: for example, you can look at a ruin and your mobile phone will show a reconstruction of what it might have looked like ...
- Automatic transit - Check-in becomes the exception and technologies such as chips, biometrics and fingerprint scanners are used to notify, for example, delays.
- Intelligent tickets - Intelligent baggage tags and tickets to help with cancelled flights or misplaced luggage
- Payment by memory - All data on payments related to a trip are integrated as a digital memory, allowing travel companies to customise services.
- Intelligent recommendations - It is becoming easier to tag, comment and share travel experiences, and we are being influenced by other travellers.
- "Bleisure" travellers - The line between work and private life is blurring, leading to more business tourists (business + leisure = bleisure). Hotels must offer technology for those who want to work ...

Technology can be scary, but we are unlikely to be able to stop it. More like trying to take advantage of it without being too controlled. Goodbye!

Wow, how technologically seaworthy travelling has become. Certainly things can improve with technology, especially in moving between A, B and C etc. But experiences, smells, sounds and noises, flavours etc, I hope will still be genuine.

Elisabeth, I agree, better to try to keep up...
Seniors Speculate, no, you learn to have no choice. Some things can really help and be positive. Other things you may have to accept anyway...
Katarina, yes, I also think that some things can help, such as faster and smoother transit, for example. But of course you hope that there will be some "real" experiences left...
