The new trend is not camping but 'glamping', i.e. glamorous camping. According to the Swedish Camping and Cottage Association (SCR) and the Tourism Research Institute (TUI), luxury, freedom of choice and niche campsites are the way of the future.
The concept of glamping
You can read about the new trend of glamping in Aftonbladet, which writes that the trend will attract both Swedish and German campers. Glamping has become popular in many places abroad, and often involves renting large luxurious tents or exclusive camping cabins.
To retain the feeling of camping, luxury camping accommodation is often set in beautiful natural surroundings, where in the evenings you can look out over forest, desert or starry skies... Alternatively, glamping can also include motorhome camping, when you roll into a campsite that offers that extra bit of luxury and exclusivity.
Glamping in Sweden
The German company rainbow operates two campsites in Sweden based on this concept: in Åhus and Mönsterås. Here you can, for example, rent a private bathroom. What do you think about this trend?
Are you interested in trying glamping? Ridestore Magazine has written a comprehensive guide to glampingand where to find the best places in Europe.
Cat in Asia says:
A novelty for me, interesting... Who is the target group?

Anki says:
Well, how about that?
There are people for everything... and of course you want to pay for it... everyone is blessed by their faith, or how was it again...?
Nothing for me anyway - no campsites at all unless it's to empty the toilet and fill up on water... prefer simpler (and cheaper) sites - or nature camping 🙂 .
Have a good Tuesday!

Pia says:
Well, but isn't the point of camping that you want to be a bit spartan and experience the essence of camping? If you want a bathroom, you might as well stay in a hotel? But taste is like cake!

Katta in Asia, well, you could ask yourself that... I think you would imagine that there is a greater variety among campers today and a greater demand for different things...?
Anki, we also usually prefer simpler and cheaper campsites. What we mainly look for in a campsite is service: electricity, showers, internet, maybe the possibility to wash clothes. At the same time, we tried a luxury campsite once, and it was kind of fun for a change, but in a completely different way. If most campsites stay simple, and some become more luxurious, there might be a market for it....
Pia, yes, I think many people feel that way, and spontaneously I probably feel that way too. But I'm not sure that everyone thinks so... Then it depends on costs as well...

Seniors Speculate says:
Maybe a little late? But we think the campsites have not understood that motorhomes have become so popular and that people do not want to live out in the wilderness but have proximity to shopping, attractions, eateries, etc. We live very close to Mönsterås and their campsite is nothing more remarkable than others. You can stand in the harbour in Mönsterås with all services and close to everything. The campsite is about 7-8 km outside. What is the point? 3 M

Seniors speculate, I agree. We have been at the car park in Mönsterås and it was great! I'm not quite sure who the customer group is...? At first I wondered if they might be more aimed at families with children (we have often chosen slightly nicer campsites with a pool when we have children with us, and perhaps more often pitches when we are alone). But I'm not really sure about that either, the picture on Aftonbladet gave a completely different impression ...

Ninni and the Hjulius motorhome in a corner says:
It might be fun to have tried it at some point just for the sake of it.
But you have your own bathroom in the car 😉.

Ama de casa says:
Then you can choose a hotel instead...

Ninni, yes, you can sort of "glamp" inside the motorhome...
🙂
Ama de casa, well that's what makes it a bit contradictory...

Mr Henrik Hagström says:
I understand that these luxurious tents with nice private bathrooms are attractive, instead of regular tents. But for those who already have a motorhome or caravan, the benefit is zero, we already have the luxury, compared to tent campers.
