Today is Sweden's national day. This is a fairly new holiday in Sweden: Swedish Flag Day became a national day in 1983 and only in 2005 did it become a public holiday. You are free, but there are not yet many traditions ...
New food traditions
According to Wikipedia However, some food traditions have already started to develop: barbecues, picnics and sandwiches. Do you engage in any of these new traditions or how do you celebrate this day? We are actually having a barbecue at Robin and Alexandra's house tonight. We also take the opportunity to wish my nephew Jesper a happy 11th birthday!
Lennart says:
I think Midsummer is Sweden's national holiday!
Have a good day!

Ninni and the Hjulius motorhome in a corner says:
Since we don't live in Sweden, we probably won't be celebrating Sweden's national day. But dad and I (and Bella who is from Sweden *fniss') like Sweden and hold on Sve in most contexts so usually tease and joke with the others and celebrate a little! :-)) Today I have a Sweden T-shirt on me in honour of the day 🙂 and dad, me, my sister, mom and Bella bus ate National Day breakfast together - what was special about it I do not know but it was fun anyway! Hehehehe

Lennart, yes, it is clearly a bigger day for celebration! The picture is actually from a midsummer too...?
Ninni, sounds like you celebrate Sweden a lot anyway, over there on the island!
🙂

Karin says:
Don't eat anything special, don't do anything special, but mostly just walk around and think our country is great.
I just wish the weather was more fantastic too... 😉.

We don't celebrate or have any special traditions. But it's nice to have an extra day off - when there is a lot to do 😉.

Agneta says:
no it was not much of a celebration here not ... a good sleep in first and then we gathered the family and had a coffee together. But it is probably so much celebration, to be all together for a while!

Anki says:
We raised the flag - of course, but otherwise this day is not celebrated in any special way.
For me, Midsummer's Eve feels more like a typical Swedish National Day...

Always missed a tradition for 6 June - living on hope that there really will be one! Picnic festival sounds great!
