Today it was time for our long-awaited horse riding trip in Iceland and we woke up to ... wind roaring in the houses. Wow, would we really go riding in this storm? But you can't say no to an adventure! We put on our warmest clothes and got ready to meet the horses and the Icelandic landscape.

The company Fire horses picked us up in a pick-up truck and drove us to Hveragerði, which is half an hour's drive from the city centre. Reykjavik. Here we had booked the riding tour "The Valley of the Hot Springs", which goes to Reykjadalur among all the hot springs. This was a day trip that would take us out into nature, in the middle of the geothermal landscape that fizzes, bubbles and smokes.
We probably couldn't have had worse weather. There were freezing cold winds and occasionally there was even ... snow. As we rode up the mountains, the horses struggled one step at a time while we struggled to even breathe in the wind. By the time we reached Reykjadalur, where we would have lunch, we were completely frozen and wondered "Have we paid for this?". Haha.
Heat from hot sources
At the place where we were to take a break we were dismounted, and here we were also given water and a sandwich each. But how could you eat a cold sandwich when your hands were frozen? Thank goodness for hot springs! After warming our hands in a hot stream, we felt much better.
On the way back we also had the wind at our backs, which made it easier to enjoy the fantastic landscape. You ride up and down steep slopes, through stone, mud and water. Everywhere there is smoke and bubbling in hot springs and streams. We are very happy with the tour, but quite tired ...

It was a great trip despite the weather, and a real experience!
Frankie & Co, the language is going well! I feel a bit unfamiliar at times and am looking for the right phrases and words, but I can still speak quite fluently. Nice to use a language again that I know, but use so rarely!
