What to pack for Iceland? It's only a few days until we go to Iceland again, and as usual it feels unreal. I've been to Iceland several times before, and even spent a whole year in this beautiful country. Here are my top tips for packing!

Temperatures in Iceland
It doesn't always have to be this cold in Iceland, at least not in terms of temperature. The Gulf Stream means that winters are often even milder than in Sweden. However, it can be feel very cold in Iceland, due to the rain and wind. Here are approximate temperatures:
- Summer: Average temperature of 12-13°C. Sometimes temperatures can rise to around 20°C.
- Winter: The average temperature in January is minus 1°C. It can get colder, but a few degrees above zero are also common.
Rain and wind
Even though temperatures are not necessarily low, it is still easy to get cold in Iceland. The reason is, of course, that it's often rainy and windy. Be prepared for rain that comes sideways and wind that never stops! There are also occasional storms, so it's best to stay indoors.
Clothes for the weather
When travelling to Iceland, you need clothes for the weather, and by that we mean clothes for rain and wind. Exactly what you need to bring depends on the time of year, but it's always a good idea to pack a suitcase. windproof jacket and rainwear. As there may be strong winds, you may not be able to use an umbrella, so it is better to wear a raincoat and possibly rain trousers.
If you want to get out into the countryside, it's also a good idea to pack a pair of sturdy shoes. hiking shoes or hiking boots and perhaps a comfortable pair of hiking trousers. Then, of course, there is the issue of feels colder when it rains and blows. Bring a little warmer jacket than expected and a nice warm jumper. For much of the year, it's also a good idea to pack up the cap and vanguard.
Clothes for city life
When walking around a new city, it's always good to have a couple of pairs of shoes. comfortable shoes. If you're also planning for city life with restaurant visits or nightlife, you can also choose to pack some little better-looking garments. Many Icelanders like to dress up for the evening, but it's usually fine to come as you are. Choose clothes you feel comfortable with!
Packing for Iceland - Other bits and pieces
If you want to swim in Blue Lagoon or any other hot spring (and of course you want to!), you should pack swimwear. Bathing in the Blue Lagoon does not require a towel, but if you plan to swim in nature, the towel good to pack.
If you are planning to rent a car, you should remember that driving licence. And don't forget to pack camera (Iceland is beautiful and you will definitely want to capture what you see! If you are photo savvy and plan to capture the Northern Lights, you should also pack a tripod to the camera.

I think it looks like a northern autumn week on the meteorologists' forecasts. Warm jumpers, maybe even long johns may be needed if you're going to be spending a lot of time outdoors.
I know there are some incredibly good restaurants there - my daughter works for an Icelandic restaurant owner and chef who has settled in Sweden. So pack a nice coat for other types of outdoor life as well.
Hope you have a really fun week, will follow you on the journey. Maybe we will also get there one day 🙂 .
