The West Swedish Tourist Board has, within the project Motorhome Destination West Sweden, conducted a market survey among 1828 motorhome enthusiasts. The results show that motorhome owners are active tourists who visit West Sweden for a large part of the year.
Western Sweden
"If West Sweden can develop sites with the service that motorhome tourists demand and with a varied range of accommodation options, we can position ourselves as a destination for both Swedish and foreign visitors," says Lotta Nibell-Keating of the West Swedish Tourist Board.
Results of the survey
- Most people use their motorhome from April to October
- Every 3rd night is spent camping - other nights on pitches or free camping.
- 75% think that the most important thing about a caravan site is the possibility of emptying drains and filling up with water.
- 70 per cent spend time sunbathing and swimming in West Sweden, 50 per cent shop and go on excursions and 40 per cent visit restaurants and cafés.
- Western Sweden is a popular destination, especially Lidköping, Gothenburg, Lysekil, Mariestad, Hjo, Strömstad, Orust and Karlsborg.

When we are at home in Sweden, we always try to take a trip to the west coast. We like the west coast, it is so different from our archipelago where we live.

Anders and Birgitta, we also like the west coast! We have made several trips to Gothenburg and Smögen, but last year it did not happen unfortunately.

Thanks for the tip, it's probably an old survey that the West Swedish Tourist Board is trying to revitalise. I will also blog about the press release on Husbilsdestination.se.

Lars, is that so? The press release was completely new... Regardless, it feels good to promote motorhome tourism, I think!

I have to say that the results of the survey are somewhat strange and therefore wonder if it is a bit manipulated. We participated in that survey when it was done quite a long time ago. Think like Lars above, but how could Karlsborg, the small town come along. There are so many places that are much better. In addition, every third night on camping, it must be wrong. Maybe if we count all our overnight stays that we have had in seven years, it is about 150 before it became camping. Were some time in Denmark in the beginning. In Sweden never. Surely it is strange. 3 M

Seniors Speculate, do you think? I was also surprised by Karlsborg, but on the other hand I don't know the area and the town very well. When it comes to camping, I think it's an average. We go camping sometimes and then you see a lot of motorhomes. Maybe some people go camping much more often and others less often? But really, I have no idea... Then it depends on who they have asked and how the competition has gone? That will be quite decisive...
