Are you following your dreams?

Linda, Ludvig and their children, from the blog Mary af Rövarhamn, are making a fantastic long journey around the world in their sailboat, and reflect on the fact that people often point out that they should be grateful for being able to undertake such a journey. As if it just fell into their lap, like an unexpected gift. They have written an interesting blog post, which we think you should read.

Purposeful preparation

Please read this post on the blog Mary af Rövarhamn. They write that people are not envious, but jealous, because they themselves may have had dreams that never materialised. But, as they write, their journey has nothing to do with luck, but is the result of a decade of purposeful preparation.

We can influence

And I have to comment, because I think they are so right! Life is certainly not fair in any way, and we all have different opportunities. But opportunities are not only something that exists independently of us, but also very much something we create for ourselves. Sartre argued that human beings are 'condemned to freedom', which offers opportunities but also creates anxiety. As humans, we can make different choices, and if we want to, we can influence the direction of events.

Must work towards the goal

Sometimes we may think that people have a little too much of a tendency to sit back and wait for life to surprise them - and then be disappointed when it doesn't. However, this is not always the case. If you want to get somewhere, you usually have to work for it.

The goal doesn't always have to be a spectacular round-the-world trip. It could be a new job, breaking up with a bad relationship or creating a new lifestyle. After all, as far as we know, you only live once... So, what do you say, are you doing what you want to do with your life? Or do you have a dream that it's time to try to realise?
