Kitchen equipment in the motorhome

What kind of kitchen equipment should you have in your motorhome? You use pretty much the same equipment as at home, but for reasons of space it can be good to limit yourself a little. Since it can rattle and make noise when driving, it's also good if the equipment doesn't make too much noise, or if you can organise "silent" storage.

Porcelain/Melamine

Porcelain or melamine? Whilst it is of course possible to have crockery in the motorhome, we (and many others) prefer melamine as it weighs less, rattles less and is less likely to break. We have a four-person set of plates, platters and deep plates. We are currently looking for a new set, as the one we have is both discoloured and scratched. In addition to plates, we would like to have matching bowls in different sizes.

Kitchen utensils

You need more or less the same kitchen utensils in the motorhome as at home. We have cutlery, knives, whisk, ladle, spatula, scissors, cheese slicer, garlic press, can opener and corkscrew. We also have crab sticks, because we like to eat crabs. eat whole crab.

Some things have been excluded due to lack of space. For example, we realised that it is not completely necessary to have an egg slicer ... Right now we have bought a grater. We've been missing one for a long time, and we chose a flat one so that it wouldn't take up too much space.

Storage

Motorhome storage is a bit different from home storage. In the motorhome, we focus on tidiness and order, as space is limited. We also want to minimise noise and rattle when driving. We have therefore chosen to furnish the cabinets with several different drawers, preferably covered with fabric. To reduce the noise in the pot cabinets, we put towels between the pots and pans.

Practical solutions in the kitchen

Over time, we have come up with various practical solutions in the kitchen. We have put up hooks for potholders and a paper towel holder. We don't think you should be too worried about putting a screw in the motorhome if it's for something practical - it's quite likely that a subsequent owner will also want a paper towel holder. There are also hooks and the like that you can stick on.

The very best solution we made is that we made space under the waste lid (behind the sink) for a large rubbish bag. We simply sawed off the bottom of the small bucket that was there, so we could attach a large black plastic bag. Extremely practical!
