FREEDOMtravel invited by the Vegas Blog
More and more Swedes are travelling to the US and one destination where many make a quick visit is Las Vegas. But why just stay for a few days? I'll tell you a bit about how much there is to do in Las Vegas and why one or two weeks is almost the minimum to do it all.
Sun and heat
I think more people should make Las Vegas a higher priority on their agenda. USA trip. One reason for many people to go on holiday is to get away from the Swedish weather and Las Vegas will not disappoint. Here the sun shines over 300 days a year and it rarely rains. For those who want summer temperatures, the period from late March to November is best.
However, you should be aware that the months of June, July and August are very hot with temperatures of around 40 degrees. Some people like it, others find it too hot. I am here every summer and enjoy it very much, especially by the pool!
Hotel pool areas are worth spending some time at. You'll find the largest and finest pool areas in the world here. The big hotels with 4 stars or better are sure to have nice pool areas. Often the hotels are also very affordable, normally the cheapest in the US!
What else is in Las Vegas?
- Huge variety of restaurants in all price ranges
- Large and well-stocked buffets
- 30 high quality shows to choose from
- America's best shopping and big outlets
- America's best nightlife and a wide range of all different types of bars.
- Sights around the city such as the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower, Venice and more
- A small amusement park 300 metres above the ground at the Stratosphere Tower.
Last but not least, I'll tell you about some of the excursion possibilities around Las Vegas. The Grand Canyon is perhaps the one everyone thinks of and should of course not be missed, the best way to get here is by helicopter or plane. Other places that are very good day trips with a rental car are Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire. Here you will see a unique mountain landscape with bold colour changes. Perfect for hiking around.
Lake Mead is a lake about an hour from Las Vegas, where you can rent a boat. Either a family boat for a quiet day or a faster boat for water games such as water skiing. If you want more specific information, you can visit our Las Vegas travel guide.

Great tips! Las Vegas is nice for a few days I think and to take the opportunity to visit the Grand Canyon for a few days at the same time fits well, great hiking. Likewise, a flight up to the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas is fantastic. What views!
Otherwise, L.V. is a city "in the middle of the desert", with fantastic hotels at very good prices, good shopping, world-class shows and a lot of other fun.
We hired a car and drove from LA and then left the car there for the flight to the Caribbean.
A nice and fun destination if you have children with you. But it's hot, so it's nice that there's ac everywhere.
Personally, I prefer the cooler breeze of any sea if I'm going to stay longer.
Hawaii; and preferably Maui or the island of Kawai (lots of rain) is good to combine with L.V. as well as driving in California.

Ditte, having not been to the US, I really associate Las Vegas with gambling, but it's good to hear that there's more! If there is something that attracts me in the US, it is the nature that seems magnificent in many places.

The nature around Vegas is really amazing. The Grand Canyon, of course, and most people find it, but it's a shame that so many people miss the Valley of Fire (and Red Rock Canyon which is closer, although Valley of Fire is a better variant in my opinion).
For nature, Death Valley is a must! Takes about 3 hours from Las Vegas. Best tip is to stay one night...and maybe not to go there in the middle of summer (very hot!).

We are the first to agree. Las Vegas is so much more than gambling! We have been there many, many times, partly for work and partly to visit friends we have there. We have also been to the Grand Canyon which is unforgettable. But renting a car and travelling around the surroundings and up the mountains is also very interesting. Agree that you should not miss the city which is unique in many ways. All the buildings that exist and with new ones constantly coming up is another part of the attraction we think. The city never sleeps either. Highly recommended! 3 M

We are the first to agree that Las Vegas is worth doing more than just going there to gamble. There is so much to see and do beyond that. Renting a car, for example, and driving around is amazing with its unique nature and everything you can see and meet. We have been there a lot for work and also because we have friends who live there and we take every chance to visit them of course. All the different buildings that are constantly growing up are also interesting to see. The prices there are half of all other places because of the games and all the casinos. That's why you also get a lot of value for money there. Luxurious hotels, fantastic artist shows, good food and much more. Trying it is definitely an experience on a larger scale, we think. 3 M
