We have some adverts on Blocket right now, and today we came across a scammer. The person lived abroad, wanted to pay via PayPal and send a courier to collect the product. But when I googled the person's name, it turned out to be a first class scammer...
Thanks to Google!
Apparently he or she manages to make it look like the money for the item and the bid has been sent via PayPal, and so you have to pay for the bid. And then when you go to collect the money via PayPal, it's gone... Now, we would have been suspicious if they were trying to get us to pay for a bid, but it was still nice to discover the fraud in good time. Thanks to Google!

How lucky that you were so attentive! I know that some scammers move both on Blocket and on Tradera. Probably believe in selling to residents of Sweden / or with a personal bid and who pay cash.
Thank goodness for Google!

Today we don't do business with people who call and want to sell. You say the little word "Yes" and they've made an order confirmation out of it. Despite all the precautions we have to take these days, we were cheated out of over €50,000 because of a stolen identity. The finger of warning must be everywhere these days.

Ditte, you're probably right! We will only sell to people who come here physically and pay in hand.
Matts Torebring, well, unfortunately you have to be a little bit about you and around you. I'd like to have a bit of a go at people, but unfortunately you can't think like that. How nasty with a stolen identity!!!

Great job spreading the information to others!
Matt, I'm very sorry to hear about your experience. We at Trustly work actively to combat fraudsters. Therefore, we have, among other things, developed Trustly Direct Payment on Blocket, where fraud protection is included.

Hi, for those of us who buy and sell, I can recommend SettleBox. Free tool developed by a good company in Malmö. You avoid fraudsters and rogue buyers/sellers.

We experienced the same thing when we put our previous motorhome on Blocket. We didn't fall for it either, because you MUST be suspicious when it comes to buying/selling both there and on the phone.

A colleague from India was looking for new rental accommodation in Malmö and had got a bite on Blocket. Several emails back and forth and pictures of the apartment etc. Since the owner was now abroad, one of the suggestions was that my colleague should pay via Western Union, another that he should pay to a bank account and there was another option that sounded somewhat reasonable, but a bit strange. My colleague sent me links and emails and wondered what I, who knows the Swedish property market better, thought. It felt like a fun detective mission. I started with the address, which was not entirely accurate. There were many houses on the street, but not all the way to the number listed. Hm. Could have meant 11 floor 2, or 11 or 12 instead of 112... Went further by looking out the windows of the photos sent (from different rooms in the apartment). Opened a googlemaps window and followed the street up and down in the street view. Hm, the houses did not look like that on that street. The wrong kind of brick among other things. Informed my colleague that this was a fraud attempt and so he had to continue looking for larger accommodation for his family.

Henny, absolutely true. One MUST be suspicious!
Johanna, what a story! Yes, it's good to have someone checking up ... You have heard some horror stories about apartments. In addition, it is often about big money!
