A quarter of the Swedish population is planning to go on a car holiday in Europe in the summer of 2013, according to a press release from TT-Line. Many take the opportunity to go to the Mediterranean, but Germany and Austria are also starting to compete.
Swedes choose countries they have visited before
The survey was conducted among 1137 people aged 18 to 90 with a driving licence or access to a car. A total of 65% of them choose to go to a country they have visited before. Why do you think that is? Is it because it feels safe?
Swedes' five favourite destinations for car holidays
The list below shows Swedes' favourite car holiday destinations. Most people (21%) want to go to Italy, followed by France. In third place is Germany, which is the destination favoured by 20-somethings. Younger people are travelling to, well, Italy.
Where do you prefer to go on a driving holiday?
We like travelling by (house) car in the Mediterranean countries because we enjoy the warmth, but we also like to discover destinations closer to home. We are part of the 65% who want to travel to countries they have been to before, but we like to discover new destinations.
Where do you prefer to go on a driving holiday? Do you favour the Mediterranean countries, and if so, which is your favourite? Or do you prefer to drive in countries closer to us, such as Germany or Austria?

Which country do you prefer? I have a soft spot for Spain's Costa del Sol and Italy of course. I wonder where you will end up this year.
PS. Then I did something I should have done a long time ago - namely checked your "About us" tab. There I got a little surprise;-)
I understood what Peter is doing, and he seems to love building, which I realised a long time ago. (His children are just as handsome as him and are his copies;-))
The surprise was probably what you are working on. Just say WOW! Let me put it this way - I often get texts from PhD students (KTH, researchers etc) for proofreading and layout and I have NEVER met a PhD student as skilful and "verbal" as you. Just thought you wanted to know.
Now I understand why you go to Ghent;-) Enjoy! Oh the film you posted is soooo professionally done and cool, including the music. DS.

Number one for us is northern Italy, by car or motorbike.
Number two is the south of France and Provence, naturally also Austria as number three, and Germany is perhaps 1 stop on the trip if you do not take the car train through Germany, usually do it when we go MC. You still have to spend the night somewhere and perfect to move around while you sleep.
Have a good day!

BP, we like Italy... and Poland actually. Poland maybe a bit like a close budget option - but a good one! We also wonder how it will be this year for our part, but the fact is that we do not even know if we will come down to Europe. Delay with sales and uncertainty about new accommodation and finances means that we do not really know if we dare. We will return about it!
And thank you for your other comments! No, Peter usually can't explain away his sons... haha. And interesting to hear that the PhD students/researchers you get texts from are not usually the best at the verbal stuff... Sure, researchers can clearly be a bit "narrow" in their knowledge sometimes... haha.
Yes, I'm going to a research conference in Ghent. I don't usually write so much about work here on the blog, but I will of course tell you a bit about the conference - so you will know a bit more!
😉
Annelie- Singapore, we also like northern Italy! We haven't spent much time in France, partly because it's a bit further away. But if nothing else, we will explore France when we go on our longer trip next year!

Samos is a very green island, only one kilometre from the Turkish border. Those who choose to come here can therefore easily make day trips to the neighbouring country for cheap shopping, for example. Most people choose to stay in the village of Pythagoreon, but despite a relatively large influx of tourists, the town has retained its genuine charm. Samos is perfect for those who want to combine tranquillity and adventure, as you can choose between relaxing on the island or going on an excursion.
