Where can you find the best beer in the world? Could it be in Belgium? When you're in Belgium, you should definitely try Belgian beer. There are lots of different types of beer here, including top-fermented beer, Trappist beer and fruit beer. One beer you'll see in many places is 'Leffe', but there are also many other, perhaps more exciting, varieties to try.
Beer brewed by monks - the best beer in the world?
What is special about the beer culture in Belgium is that there are many different types of beer. These include top-fermented beer, spontaneously fermented beer, fruit beer and Trappist beer (beer brewed by Trappist monks). Belgian beer is usually served in glasses specially made for it and, according to Wikipedia, Belgium has often been called the 'Disneyland of beer'.
When we went out to eat today, the waiter persuaded us to order "the best beer in the world", which he said was "Tripel Karmeliet". This is a Belgian beer inspired by a beer brewed by monks in the 17th century. Really good and flavourful I must say, although I don't dare vouch for it being the best beer in the world...
Ghent - a charming city
As well as being good, the beer is Ghent in Belgium is a really charming city to drink your beer in. The city is full of beautiful old houses and cosy alleys, with a river full of boats running through it all. It's also not difficult to find a bar or pub where you can enjoy a good beer. Quite the contrary! The whole city is full of cosy bars and restaurants. There are also plenty of restaurants in Ghent with really good food.

Belgian beer is a bit tricky because it is so strong, we have a belgian beer café around the corner from work and every time there is an AW there, the guys get pretty drunk because the beer is so much stronger. =)

Oats, wheat and barley, with all three grains being used both unmalted and as malt.
The name Tripel refers to the use of three grains, while also denoting a strong beer that post-ferments in the bottle.
Try it with crème brulée or enjoy it without food as a dessert!
I'm in a beer club here in Singapore, and I have a lot of brewmasters from all over the world living here at the moment, and I'm always learning about new things and trying out beers and ales.
Hugs from Singan!

😉
Annelie-Singapore, glad you're in a beer club and thanks for all the tips! Beer certainly seems to be a more interesting chapter here than in most places. I like more, so I would love to try more if I were here in a different context or had more time. Oh well, maybe I can try something else tonight....

I like to try different varieties and would get tired of drinking a single variety even if it's "the best in the world".
Right now I have a craze for Asian light layers, kirin and singah, when they are out it will be something else 🙂 .

BP,

FixarFarsan, agree! I think Singah can be a bit too light and airy, although it can taste good on a hot day! There are a lot of fun beers here. I would love to try more!

No how funny! Standing at lunch today and talking about beer and my colleague spoke warmly about "Leffe" a beer I actually did not know, but I have not been to Belgium either. As a curiosity, I can mention that my other colleague, who was also at lunch, is called Leffe 😉.
Keep up the good work
