Nothing is in Solna

Now you think this post won't be about anything, but it is. It's about Ingenting. The Ingenting office and residential neighbourhood is located in Solna, not far from where we live.

Area Nothing

The Ingenting area, like the neighbouring Ingenting forest, is named after the Ingenting manor, which was once part of Karlberg Castle. The name lives on and on Google Maps you can now also find Ingentingsgatan and the Solna STC Ingenting gym.

Housing, offices and streets

Both Johan Tobias Sergel and Carl Michael Bellman are said to have lived or stayed in the Ingenting area for periods. However, the 18th-century buildings were demolished in connection with the construction of Tomteboda postal terminal. The City of Solna is now building housing, offices, streets and squares in the area.

I've been fascinated by the name Nothing since I moved here, but the origin of the name is apparently disputed ... According to some explanations, Bellman or Gustav III jokingly gave rise to the name, but this is apparently not true.

Instead, according to some place-name researchers, the name may be linked to the former settlement of Bålstomta, as "Ingenting" is supposed to be a kind of synonym for this name.
