Lonely Planet's list of the top 10 countries to visit in 2014 includes the following interesting points Sweden comes in fourth place! They thank the author Stieg Larsson for putting Sweden on the map, helping to portray the country as ... cold, beautiful and a bit scary. They also mention Swedish food, with ingredients such as seafood, berries, herbs and local cheeses.

BP says:
Nice with Sweden so high up:-)
Of the countries you list, I have only been to Scotland - great despite the weather - and Belgium. I really can't recommend Belgium. Dirty, grey and unfriendly. If you don't like chocolate and mussels, I'll issue a warning sign!

I'm glad that Sweden got a fourth place. Soon we may be number one.

Mexico! There is "everything" from fantastic beaches to exciting culture. Chichen Itza with the Mayan culture was very exciting to see. In Mexico it was also the very first time I ate type Tacos and Fajitas. So I recommend Mexico 🙂

It's nice that Sweden was so high up! But I like Sweden...
As for other destinations, I would love to go to Antarctica and also Easter Island. Seychelles is also something I can imagine. As for Brazil (have been there a couple of times), it would be for the World Cup, but well....
I have not visited Malawi, but South Africa appeals to me more. Otherwise, I have probably looked in, and with different lengths, in the "Countries of the Planet", but cannot say that I agree. But it's good that you can think differently, it depends on what you are looking for. Or does it?

Not my list. Right now I am interested in visiting European cities.
Like the others, I am pleased that Sweden is so high on the list.

Considering the number of mystery writers in bookshops around the world, maybe we should be glad that people have the courage to travel there 😉.

Certainly Mankell has also contributed to our fame in the scary stories industry. As for Stieg L, I think there are guided tours in Stockholm showing the locations in the story. I heard about this high ranking, but I thought it would be more about Selma Lagerlöf, moose, mushroom picking and fishing, for example, and silence. In our small business with cabin rentals and fishing, we have more than 200 guests from abroad every year.

BP, Scotland I would love to visit! I have more experience in Belgium than you, but I have only been to two very small places: Hasselt and Ghent.
Criss-cross, Mexico sounds exciting! How were the tacos and fajitas there compared to the Swedish version? (I'm actually going to try real Mexican food tomorrow, when we have a cookery evening with a Mexican colleague).
Marina, haha, well, maybe so. Swedish crime novels really seem to be a thing!
Inga M, interesting reflection, but maybe the interests differ between tourists visiting Stockholm and tourists visiting Norrland?

Glad that Sweden came so high!!!
I also read the post before and see what nice things you do in the houseboat. How did it go in the storm?

Helga, we prepared a bit and taped some cupboard doors... but there was no storm here in Stockholm...

As you know, I'm one step ahead and will be travelling to Brazil in 2013 😉 But I'm going there to visit my son and his partner.
Otherwise, I think it's great that Sweden is in fourth place! Well deserved in many ways. On the other hand, I do not cheer for Belgium ...

How fun that Sweden is on the list! 😀 I have been to 7 of the countries on the list and can recommend all of them (Brazil, Scotland, Mexico, Malaysia, Sweden, Malawi and Belgium)! The ones I haven't been to I want to go to... Macedonia, for example, sounds very interesting. Seychelles looks GORGEOUS, and being able to go to Antarctica sounds like a distant dream. Mexico I want to see more of.
