Do you have winter tyres for your motorhome? If you plan to use your motorhome this winter, it's almost time to change to winter tyres. Between 1 December and 31 March, special tyres are required for winter road conditions and there are new rules for motorhomes with a total weight of more than 3.5 tonnes.
Winter tyres December - March
Between 1 December and 31 March, special tyres are required in winter conditions. Winter conditions mean snow, ice, snowdrifts or frost on any part of the road. Winter tyres can be studded or non-studded - studded tyres can be used from 1 October to 15 April.
Requirements for winter tyres
The requirement for winter tyres applies to class I passenger cars and class II passenger cars (motor homes) with a maximum total weight of 3.5 tonnes, light trucks, light buses and trailers drawn by these vehicles. At the beginning of this year, new rules were also introduced for heavy trucks, heavy buses and class II passenger cars (motor homes) with a total weight of more than 3.5 tonnes. For these vehicles, winter tyres are now required on the vehicle's drive axles when winter road conditions prevail during the period in question.
Front-wheel drive cars must be fitted with winter tyres or equivalent equipment (snow chains, anti-skid and some coarse-patterned tyres) also on the rear axles of the vehicle. Read more at Transport Agency.
Winter tyres for motorhomes - a safety issue
Having good tyres is not only a matter of following the rules, but also a matter of safety. The rubber in the tyres deteriorates over the years, so sometimes you have to change them! We got winter tyres when we bought our motorhome second-hand. We haven't used them very often, as we rarely use the motorhome in the winter, but a few times we have actually driven in snow, including to Trosa in February. Then we had the benefit of our winter tyres!

Oh, I thought you could put on winter tyres from 1 October. Every year you are surprised by the snow and line up at the workshop.

Frankie & Co says:
Since we had to slide around and could not drive up a small hill at last year's first snow on our way to garage the motorhome for winter rest, it is not relevant with winter tyres on only the drive axle for our part, we are looking for 6 wheels with studs, can be good to have on hand if we roll in winter road conditions.

FixarFarsan.se says:
Motorhomes have quite a lot of weight at the back and usually front-wheel drive, so good tyres all round are particularly important.
I prefer studded tyres, but aren't they banned in some continental countries?
