As part of efforts to reduce CO2 emissions from commercial transport in Europe, the EU wants to fit all new vans with equipment that limits the speed of the vehicles. This would mean a speed limit for motorhomes as well.
The proposal
The proposal includes light vans and camper vans and, if adopted, would mean that cars would be equipped with an electronic speed limiter, making it impossible to drive faster than 120 km/h.
What do you think?
Some have commented positively, but I myself do not understand the point. It's extremely rare to drive faster than 120 km/h anyway, and the few times you are on the Autobahn, it can be quite good to be able to keep the same speed as everyone else.
Incidentally, one of the reasons for choosing a motorhome is that you not wants to go 80 km/h like a caravan. We have trim chip in our motorhome. The main point of this is not to be at high speeds, but to be able to accelerate faster when overtaking. What do you think about this proposal?
Lennart says:
As part of reducing emissions, lorries could be banned - that would be a good idea!
They also drive almost at 120!

BP says:
Stupid! Your arguments explain why the proposal is ridiculous!
If you want to reduce emissions, expand rail transport so that people can use public transport instead of driving to work every day and queuing.

More insanely stupid proposals as they come.
with for us motorists !!!
Enough with a ban as it is!!!
In some situations, fast overtaking and avoiding the need for
get past lorries that also drive too fast !!!!
Agree with Lennart actually !!!
Have a nice weekend...Hugs

Mr Steve says:
It is probably easiest to attack minorities. To reduce emissions in a way that is also noticeable, we should limit the major polluters and expand the more environmentally friendly alternatives.

Alexandra says:
I agree that it feels silly. I don't think that motorhomes account for a significant amount of CO2 emissions.
But to ban lorries as someone wrote up here would also be rather silly as it affects us consumers. I do not think there are so many people who are out and enjoy driving lorries.

Across the board says:
It is true that we do not need to drive faster than 120 kilometres per hour, but to legislate on the basis of carbon dioxide emissions seems ridiculous. There must be more effective ways to reduce emissions. Given the huge number of lorries on Europe's roads, it would be a better idea to look at how they drive and what condition they are in. Many of them are really old and taxing these "old bums" is probably more effective than targeting caravan drivers.

Mr Tony says:
If everyone was at 80 for caravans, emissions would also be reduced. Absolutely on larger vehicles because wind resistance increases.
