Real Mexican food! Last night my colleagues met for a Mexican cookery evening. One of the colleagues is of Mexican origin and had brought "real" Mexican recipes, not Santa Maria's texmex packages, but things that "ordinary Mexicans" usually eat. Interesting of course, and so it became really really good!
Ensalada de Nopalitos
The starter was ensalada de nopalitos, a salad made from cactus leaves, tomato and onion. The salad was accompanied by nachos and 'salsa de sorunda'.
Buffet with Mexican specialities
This was followed by a buffet of Mexican specialities. We got to try chilaquiles (Mexican "lasagne", with nachos instead of pasta), arroz de méxicano (Mexican rice), mole poblano con pollo (chicken with chilli and chocolate sauce), frijoles refritos (bean paste), guacamole (avocado paste) and tortilla de maíz (corn tortillas).
For dessert we had fried plantains with sugar and cinnamon. And then Margaritas with Tequila of course... What a wonderful evening and dining experience! What are your experiences with Mexican food? Feel free to tell us!

Oh, looks super tasty! I'd probably have eaten until I'd burst if I'd been there 🙂 ).

Looks very very good. Chocolate sauce, that sounded unusual, it's a bit difficult to get it together with the chicken, if it's like regular chocolate sauce. Would probably have chosen it for the bananas haha

What fun to cook together with someone who knows "really" how it should taste. It looks very good and I understand that it was a nice evening with lots of good food and drink. Lovely food pictures!

Yvonne, it wasn't a regular chocolate sauce... but it was chocolate flavoured!

So here I stop at the starter and the cactus leaves. That's where I get really curious. Then I take the corn tortillas too. Then I'm full.
But fun to try some exotic dishes!

BP, practical if I had also become full so quickly... But it's fun to try some exotic food! The cactus leaves were bought in cans and had apparently been a challenge to find here in Sweden.

Oh, yes! It looked familiar. Had to look for the photos from our trip in Mexico and sure enough it was something similar we ate 🙂 .

Criss-cross, interesting to hear that it was similar to the food you got! Wishing you a nice weekend too!
Ulla & Torgny, when it comes to Asian food, Thai is not our favourite, although it can be delicious sometimes.
